Let Me Get You Caught Up A Little…
The title of the blog explains a lot (well, I’m a 45 year old man, but feel, and many would say “act” like a boy), and I have a 7 month old white Jack Russell Terrier named Isis, and I moved from my 10 years of cozy existance in a 2,300 sq ft ocean view house with spa and swimming pool in Hemosa Beach, to a 1 room (+ combined bathroom/laundry room) “loft” in downtown Los Angeles. The building is technically about 3 blocks from “skid row” but that’s a little closer than I’ve been before. I moved in April 12th, 2007 so I will be covering a little history in first few posts.
The 10-story showpiece was built in 1910 by copper tycoon Thomas Higgins. Its marble walls and brass fittings mirrored the glamour of pre-World War I downtown. Tenants included Clarence Darrow, General Petroleum, the chancery office of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles and noted architect Albert C. Martin Sr. Main Street’s golden era didn’t last long, as homeless shelters displaced thriving businesses (by Cecilia Rasmussen- LA Timescecilia.rasmussen@latimes.com)
Why did I make the move? I’ll touch on that from time-to-time, but this blog is not a “woe-is-me” story but a documentation of the adventures and challenges I face everyday- did I mention I do not have a drivers license, nor anyone I know that lives anywhere near downtown? I’ve been an Independant Software Developer for past 20 years and am also using writing this blog as an excuse to get to know WordPress and maybe come up with a design for the “next hot blog software”.
And before anyone interprets the title or me as racist- I am far from it. There may be some posts that some may deem offensive about various races- but I will be relating the stories of daily living in downtown Los Angeles, which has a multitude of racial “neighborhoods” blocks away, and walking my dog through them. I will be making fun of me just as much (my favorite t-shirt says “White Men Can’t Dance” with a funny pic ). So don’t take anything personally, but feel free to make your objections via comments.
