Our First Night Downtown - Pitfire Pizza & Great Sleep
The same day I moved, I had a new mattress and frame were delivered just as scheduled (big props to SitNSleep). I put some fresh bed linens on, along with a new light goose-down comfortor (which filled the room with feather on the first “shake” to adjust it- what a mess!). I decided to position the bed as close to back wall as possible, with foot of bed 3″ from the first window of unit (facing the skyline). I opened the window about 6″ or maybe a foot- I really don’t have fear of Isis jumping out of window or high ledge; I’ve seen her in plenty of situations where she is curious but careful. Dogs and Cats seem to understand “depth perception” pretty well, and how it relates to injury.
Now that bed was prepared, it was time to eat and collapse. I had read so many great reviews about Pitfire Pizza (on the ground-floor of the building - read info) and that sounded perfect. I went down there just to give Isis a little time to experience being by herself and I ordered one of their classic Sausage Pizzas (no changes). While I was waiting for the pizza I had a draft beer, PBR- Papst Blue Ribbon, which I normally would never order but I wanted something light as I was super thirsty from the move. The beer tasted great and pizza arrived just when I finished my mug. I took it back to the room (from Pitfire there is a cool “backdoor” that building residents can use to get to elevators without going outside and around the corner).
That pizza was amazing- not exactly like I’ve had before. Really no sause per-se but great miniture tomatoes combined with large chucks of sweet fennel sausage made locally. And the crust is amazing too- very thin but with a nice lip that is thick like a breadstick. The nice thing is these pizzas are not quite as big as California Pizza Kitchens, and don’t generally have as many items (they could if customize) but I like that as Idon’t get too full (they have a larger size available at dinner if you desire).
I ate half the pizza,in pure heaven, then went to sleep. Isis slept with me and I see her from time-to-time just staring out the window- she loves view too. I did get up on 2 seperate occassions 2 get the last 2 pieces of the pizza- it was that good that it was on my mind and I had to go get it.
I did not notice any unusual sounds that night other than what I assumed was normal- traffic downtown at night is generally very light. A few sirens that were loud due to their close proximity, but that’s par-for-the-course when you live near a large police station (Parker Center).
Glad I just found your wordpress blog through Google.
