4th of July Walk To Dodger Stadium
It’s the hottest day of the year- 90+ but I needed to go scout out a restaurant or park to watch fireworks from, as at the end of Dodger baseball game tonite there would be a show and it was closest to me. So Isis and I head out for the 4 mile round trip.
Downtown was dead with all federal buildings closed and we moved along fast- I wanted to sweat off a couple of pounds anyway. As soon as we hit Chinatown (which at it’s northwest side is right across street from the stadium) the pedestrian traffic was crazy. The sidewalks are narrow, many stores bring their wares out onto the sidewalk taking up 3-4 feet of it, and today there were many large groups with young kids- pure nightmare with Isis.
But I was convinced I would press on and find the restaurant or cafe to be at. It is literally wall-to-wall people, moving slow, and along comes this black guy on a bike who is trying to cross through the crowd on the sidewalk ahead of me. He is yelling at the people (I’m sure he was a little psychotic or intoxicated or both) and no one is giving him an inch. I stop with white dog and wave him through- and say “it looks like you’re having a bad day” with a smile- he crosses through the crowd and says “yeah- bad day- but you have a good day” and off he goes, an accident waiting to happen. It was a cool 15 sec. connection between a scruffy looking white guy and his dog, and a crazy black guy on his bike in Chinatown.
Coming home, Isis kept stopping, just sitting down in middle of sidewalk- it was HOT! I kept looking for a fountain to get her a handful of water (or throw her in!) but nothing was accessible without me getting arrested. I didn’t find a place to watch fireworks from- maybe just the street- but I did succeed in wearing out my puppy, which is a good thing!
