Downtown Is A “Set” For So Many Productions

I can barely walk a day without seeing a production company setting up, tearing down, or actually filming (a movie, commercial, TV show, or music video).  Many residents downtown are upset because of the generally unannounced street closures, helicopter fly-bys, and simulated gunfire and explosions.  A recent LA Times article documented this, and said in a recent 19 day period, 90+ productions filmed downtown.  (read article here)

It doesn’t really bother me, mostly due to the fact I’m not driving, but it adds an interesting angle to my walks with Isis.

A non-profit organization, filmla.com, tries to make it easier for everyone involved to make filming happen in Los Angeles (as opposed to Vancouver, etc where it is cheaper and more “film-friendly”).  They will post a notice in our lobby by elevators when something might affect the tenants here, but it usually falls off or gets taken down (hey, I took a couple down for about 10 minutes while I scanned them then taped tham back up).

These are the 2 most recent notices I’ve seen- tomorrow and Friday will have an IBM commercial filmed in front of CalTrans building (right next to me) with a ton of street closures.  I wonder why they can’t do this on a weekend?  Click the thumbnails below to see the FilmLA notices…
