I Thought Dog Fighting Was For Compton Thugs?
I cannot believe this NFL “star” Michael Vick, quaterback for Atlanta Falcons, was arrested with huge dogfighting charges. Every story I read about his actions brings tears to my eyes and makes me hope that the justice system will not let some “thug” go with a small fine or probation just because he is a “star”. And of course, I believe he should never play for Atlanta, let alone in NFL football again, but there are too many greedy owners for that to happen.
It’s unfortunate, but the U.S. justice system views dogs (pets) as just “property” and their only value is the price you paid for them. This needs to change too.
I know more people should be going to jail too- it “takes two to tangle” and the other owners deserve serious sentances, but it appears the Vick was one of the meanest, cruelest bastards.
Quotes from the ‘net include:
The indictment alleges that the 27-year-old Vick and his co-defendants began a grisly dogfighting operation in early 2001 in which dogs fought to the death — or close to it.
Among the grisly findings: Losing dogs either died in the pit or were electrocuted, drowned, hanged or shot. The indictment said purses climbed as high as $20,000 for fights.
The Surry property, purchased by Vick in 2001, was raided in April by police, who said they found 55 American pit bull terriers and equipment associated with dogfighting.
The 19-page indictment cites eyewitness accounts from three confidential witnesses. It alleges that in April about eight pit bulls were executed by Vick, Peace and Phillips by methods that included “hanging, drowning and slamming one dog’s body to the ground.”
It also says in March 2003 that Peace consulted with Vick about a female pit bull’s condition after losing a fight and that execution followed.
If there is a Hell, Vick should go straight there.
