“Stop War Now” Protest/March Sucked
I know I complain a lot about the immigration protests and marches downtown. But now I will complain about a march whose cause I support but was really A NON-EVENT- a “Stop The War” march that went down Broadway, from Olympic to Temple, and then to the Federal Building at Temple and Los Angeles St.
After my 9 am workout, I was walking home and saw literally a dozen police cars cruising down Broadway - some had lights on too. I wondered what was up…
As I got to 3rd and Spring, I saw traffic cops redirecting traffic and causing a major traffic jam. I asked what this was for and was told it was a “Stop The War” march that would be coming by shortly.
I can’t find info on-line about this protest, but via the radio (KFI- 640AM) I heard that there were about 150 protestors marching to the Federal building. Now I get pissed-off about the immigration marches that happen frequently, but this has to be the worst use of city money that I’ve seen (and the worst protest) - the meager number of participants should not cause traffic redirection in downtown Los Angeles.
I am all for pulling our troops out of Iraq- Iraq sucks, and they don’t deserve our help, and will never understand democracy. But PLEASE, organize a decent size rally and don’t cause a scene with your 150 person gathering that has to walk through a major corridor in downtown Los Angeles. I was embarrased to support your cause.
</rant off> Now maybe the people that criticized me for being upset at the immigration marches will realize that I look at each event fairly and with an open mind.
More to come IF I can find any coverage of this asinine protest…
