Joe and I, and Ruby (his English Bull Terrier) and Isis had a great time this afternoon, walking through Skid Row. Joe knew many people, and I had a blast meeting folks down there. I will be back tomorrow. Joe is a genuine great guy and we will have fun too.
I wish I took more […]

I walked down this stretch yesterday to see it now that I knew what was really there (see THIS post). I hadn’t been down this way for awhile as I usually only use it to go to Pete’s Cafe. I was very suprised at how the much progress had been made on the ImaginAsian Theater. […]

They were filming The Changeling, a movie directed by Clint Eastwood, starring Angelina Jolie, on the north and west side of City Hall yesterday afternoon. They had probably 20 or so antique cars- like Model T’s, and an old cable car out in the street, and they had a “rain machine” that was still raining […]

In my past “beach” life I always wanted to come help at the Mission on Skid Row at Thanksgiving. But now that seems like such a “photo op” for the celebs- not a real way to offer a little encouragement or help to the homeless.
I have not figured out what to do yet- but I […]

I don’t know if you’re ready for a shot of my ugly mug, so click at your own risk (and yes, I’m sweating bullets as I was about 120 degrees in that coat). The party was great as always and Isis behaved very well when off the leash (she still barks at dogs when she […]

The Cathedral of St. Vibiana was the seat of the Los Angeles Archdiocese. It has been closed since May 1995 because of damage sustained during the 1994 Northridge earthquake. It reopened in Summer ‘07 as simply Vibiana- a beautiful place that can be rented out for parties and weddings, etc.Although from the 2nd St. side it […]

Thanks to trainedmonkey for mentioning this site as a source of news around 2nd and Main St. But an editorial this week by an Emmy-award winning former Fox News Reporter, Sam Hall Kaplan digs deep into what is happening on Main St. between 2nd and 3rd St - Keeping an Edge on Main Street.
For example, I […]

I’m not very “star struck” and frankly I don’t ususlly recognize TV and movie stars when I see them. But I think Jessica Biel is probably my favorite actress, as far as looks goes. And to find out she was right below my loft partying at The Edison- damn it! Justin Timberlake must be thanking […]

Thanks to Celia at 5th and Spring for reminding me about this song- it was one that my parents played and I got hooked on, but it makes so much more sense now. I hope you’ll enjoy Petula Clark’s song like I do… this video is from 1964 and still rocks!
From a fan: “The meaning […]
