Morton’s - Ho Hum…
I went with a friend to Morton’s tonite- I’ve been to the one in Beverly Hills but not downtown.. We actually went to The Palm first but it was a 1 hour wait, and it was 45 minute wait at Morton’s but they served the full menu in the bar, so we ate at the bar, which was pretty good service.
But I must say, I was not incredibly blown away by the food. I’ve had much better steaks (I had a filet) and the appetizers were good, but nothing special. (CitySource.com does not agree with me- but I’d rather dine at Mastro’s, or even Ruth’s Chris).
With tip, the bill was about $200 - I don’t thnk it was worth quite that much.
But the after dinner fun was at the Jalisco and 5 Star Bar on Main St. - they are 1/2 block away from my loft and I wanted to check these places out (oh yes, we went in “The Smell” first- we were only people there at 9:00 pm - but there were TONS of people standing in alley just smoking and waiing for band to start. Definitely I was one of oldest persons there- but it was kind of fun.
Then we went to Jaliscos- supposedly a Mexican-Ranchero-Gay bar, but it did not seem that way to me. Maybe just seemed like “boys night out”. Good music too, but loud as most clubs are.
Then we checked out ”5 Star” club next door on Main St. Now that was a crazy bar- my friend and I were the only white boys (and only white guys period except for owner and bartender) in a Hispanic bar- but you know what? Every one was friendly to us - the owner was a nice lady who actually greeted us at the door with a handshake.
There were a couple of old gray hair latino guys sitting nearby and I noticed that there were NO women. I asked the guys when the women would show up and he said if I saw any women in there, they were prostitues. The strange thing is that I did not think it was a gay bar, oh well, it’s hard to tell what’s going on anymore with transvites out clubbing, but I did not see any last night (I think…)
But last night was a real “drama free” night- I swear, I get in more near-fights in Hermsoa Beach or Manhattan Beach bars than I ever have at downtown bars. People are so different down here than at the beach bars.
I’m so happy to live downtown- the people and the energy is amazing.
