White Dog is very vocal lately when she wants her tummy scratched or to play. I tried to lie on my bed to relax my back, but Isis would have none of that. After 5 min. or so of her moaning, growling, yipping, and nudging my arm, I decided I might as [...]

…that does not help much when it falls (jumps?) out of an 8-story window. This morning there was a cryptic e-mail sent to the building’s mailing list at 12:01 a.m., asking simply:
does anyone know what that was? is everyone okay? that was scary sounding…
I was curious, as we’ve had some drunks playing with fire extinguishers in [...]

I saw this post a couple of days ago over at Joe’s blog- Big City POZ, and it was shocking, as I live about 2 blocks from where this assault happened. But the more I thought about it, the more it made me remember all the violence, towards both men and women, in the peaceful [...]

Fiesta Broadway went off yesterday without a hitch, but with far less than the number of expected attendees (500,000 was predicted by event organizers, but LAPD estimates put the number at closer to 150,000. For me, there were no problems at all from the event- the sound check from the stage at 1st and Broadway [...]

…but only on my DIET! After dinner at Tranquility Base on April 12th, I have had a craving for greasy food (not that Tranquility Base has just greasy food, but I enjoyed their mini-burgers and fries the most). I fought it for awhile, but I rationalized that I could eat bad for a week and then [...]

On Sunday, April 27th the Fiesta Broadway event will happen right in front of my eyes, as viewed from my loft. The event is billed as the “Largest Latino event in the nation’s largest Latino market”- just look at the list of corporate sponsors and you will begin to understand the power of the “new majority” in Southern [...]

It sounds like the Japanese government is getting serious about reducing the overall percentage of overweight people, at least in it’s workforce. Supposedly already under way, everyone over age 40 needs to be tested for “metabolic syndrome, an obesity-linked condition that increases the risk of heart disease and diabetes” (I’ve never heard of metabolic syndrom, [...]

I found a site that allows you to “draw” your route via mouse clicks, and it will calculate the exact mileage (and calories burned, which I don’t consider to be accurate but it’s a nice “gauge” of effort). This app also takes into account elevation changes, something the normal Google Maps data does not include, [...]

If you used to use the old filming map application that was created by Dave Bullock (of eecue.com and blogdowntown.com fame), then you know what a slick application it was. I used it daily to plan where to walk White Dog (some film stuff I wanted to see, some I wanted to avoid). But Dave [...]

Last Saturday was the first “official” pool party of the season at the downtown Standard Hotel (550 South Flower at Sixth Street). I still haven’t been to one of these- but have always wanted to check it out. What great motivation to stick to my diet/exercise program.
Here’s a video from the event featuring 9th [...]
