White Dog Misses Loftydog
At the beginning of March, Loftydog, the pet store/groomers that was next to my building, moved to their new “Bark-er Lofts” location in the Arts District (525 South Hewitt). I was able to get Isis in for one final grooming before they left, but now she needs a good clean-up and trim (thank god her toe nails are always short due to walking on pavement so much).
The owner Cabrini is a very entrepreneurial type, an “early adopter” of the new breed of downtown business catering to loft dwellers, and their new location sounds amazing. From what I understand, they have a small dog “park” where you pay a fee and your dog can play there. A little pricey, but for $40 a month, where else can you run your dog downtown? Loftydog now offers membership plans- all the way up to the $10,000/year ”Black Card” that provides:
Unlimited one year of daycare, priority boarding during any holiday season, 60 overnight stays in a Loftydog Suite, and one bath and one full grooming per month.
This sounds perfect for the jet-set yuppies who just have their dogs as “fashion accessories”
So it’s time I start looking at other places- I’m leaning towards trying somewhere new, as a rough-cut JRT, Isis really should be “stripped”, not clipped, and Loftydogs dis not provide that service, so maybe I can find a place downtown that will strip hair. I think I’ll try Pussy & Pooch first, as it is within walking distance (hey, I’m lazy- I used to have the groomer come to my house…). Taking her there will be an adventure of it’s own, especially if Isis is not on her best behavior. Stay tuned for a review and pics…
(I should add that Loftydogs does provide a pick-up and delivery service, and I may try that too).
pussy & pooch doesn’t do grooming, they just have a self-service grooming area.
during the loftydog transition, wonton has made a couple of visits to muttropolitan in little tokyo. they’ve done a great job, but wonton does fiercely miss the loftydog folks.
the loftydog academy opens april 15, according to the latest news. wonton can’t wait!
April 6th, 2008 at 4:42 pmJim- thanks for saving me a call/trip to Pussy & Pooch- I don’t think Isis is ready for me to try my grooming skills on her. The Little Tokyo place sounds like it’s worth a try.
Hopefully we’ll see Wonton, you and Celia on dog walk next week, IF Isis desn’t get in one of her “psycho” moods…

April 6th, 2008 at 5:48 pmVisited Pussy & Pooch the other day and it server our purpose since Carter just needed a bath.
We are on the hunt for a groomer as well.
I looked up LoftyDog on the web and tried to find their stores the other day. Of course the one off Main St. was closed (I didn’t know) and google maps told me to check out the new one (the academy per se) and of course it isn’t open. But I look forward to checking it out when it opens.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:06 pmHey B-
I’m taking White Dog to muttropolitan today, per Jim’s suggestion above (you saw his comment that Pussy & Pooch doesn’t do grooming..). I’ll post a review of their “refresh” servide.
I read your post about how Carter like to pee in the dirt “boxes” around trees and then the pee “puddles up”- yuck! I try not to even walk in that dirt if I can avoid it, but I’d hate to find out how many human’s DNA I have on my shoes after a dog walk, if you know what I mean…
April 8th, 2008 at 2:32 pmHey Eric, how did Isis do at Muttropolitan? Grace over there is a really sweet lady and she also is getting her hand into dog photography.
She has a wide range of grooming options too and maybe it’s closer than the Barker Block for you… ?
