I really love weekends downtown, as it is usually very quiet in the morning, and stays relatively quiet all day (depending on construction at LAPD HQ- they are allowed to begin work at 8am on weekends). Last weekend, Memorial Day, was like heaven; once I was standing at corner of Main and 1st St [...]

I knew owner Emily and her staff were great- I am so happy that they received this special award= #1 on “Best of” from CitySearch.com, beating out all the high-end mani/pedi places in Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, etc. And they did not win the award by “ballot-box stuffing”, but by providing quality, affordable service- [...]

I was walking down Main St. by 5th today, where the sidewalk is pretty wide, and was approaching a street-looking guy getting on his piece-of-crap bike, heading our direction. I didn’t think much but as we were passing him he started to pedel and then did a U-turn right into us- running over White [...]

Damn it! I did it again! I took White Dog for her midday walk without putting sunscreen on. I just noticed that my face and arms are a nice shade of pink/red.
In my old neighborhood, I got the nickname “Lobster” because of my propensity to have sunburned face and arms. [...]

Over the holiday weekend, I saw many families out-and-about around the City Halls, looking to enjoy some sunshine while sitting in the grass and reading or having a snack. Unfortunately, there are some grassy/dirt areas around the City Hall(s) that are very frequently used as [...]

I love listening to music, and I use an IPod when I workout, but I was always afraid to use it when walking around as I wanted to be aware of people/bikes/skateboards coming up behind me, and did not want to be distracted.
Yesterday I decided to wear IPod home from gym and WOW! did [...]

On this long Memorial Day weekend, The Edison will be open with a special performance by Abney Park. I don’t know what you’d really call Abney Park, nor their style of music (”Pirate Techno”?), but check out their web site, and maybe the videos section to get an idea of what to expect. [...]

Sounds interesting, and I haven’t tried this place out yet. And they are right- Sunday night dining choices are limited, at least in Historic Core…

I just got back from my first workout in 6 days and I feel like a million bucks! The iron is my prozac, and I was getting a little down (well, a lot), but today I’m back on track! So the song for today is “Stronger”:
“Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles [...]
