What Hospital To Use…
I don’t know what I ate that did not agree with me, but I had worst case of food poisoning I think I’ve ever had. I will not name names as I’m not sure, but lets just say there is one less sushi place I’m going to frequent.
I woke up Sunday a.m. at about 7 and started to brush teeth and BAM! All of sudden I had my head over toilet puking guts out. I had some shopping to do, and of course walking White Dog, but I quickly realized this was not going to pass quickly. Every 45min to 1hr I was back in bathroom, and then back in bed with cold sweats and then hot flashes. I could not keep water down, and certainly not juice. Of course it happens on hottest day here and my loft’s a/c in inadequate on super hot days.
About 7pm I was getting a little concerned. I was so dehydrated, and Isis was so pissed at me, but all I could do was throw up, guzzle some H2O, and hope at least some would stay down. Then reality started to set in about how ill-prepared I was for an emergency. I had no idea what hospital I should (or could) go to to get on an IV. I know my electrolytes were/are wacked as I started to get irregular heart beats, which I never get.
About 6 am was my last “prayer to porcelin god” but I was so weak, and had no Gaterade. I just got back at 3pm from a Gatorade run, but Isis is still waiting for a good walk- hopefully in an hour or two I will be stronger. In retrospect I should have called a dog walker to help, but on Sunday? And I wasn’t going to impose on any one with the way Isis behaves.
So now I’m going to research the several hospitals in the area so I have a “rescue plan” if needed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I’ll tell ya first where NOT to go. I’m in hospitals all the time and my family is in the medical field, so I’m a little educated on this topic.
Don’t go to:
USCMC County General Hospital
California Hospital (downtown)
Sunset Kaiser
Do go to:
Cedars Sinai
Good Samaritan
Hollywood Pres/Queen of Angels
Eric,
Where did you eat in the last few days? I spoke to a Health Inspector not too long ago and he had some real horror stories.
Get well soon.
May 20th, 2008 at 12:18 amThanks for the advice Officer- you are a good man. I hope I don’t need to use it ever, but I kind of freaked when I realized I really didn’t know where to go.
I should be back to normal tomorrow (I hope)- I’m still real weak and feel like I did 1000s of situps, in a bad way. And burning in throat from all the acid.
I don’t really want to name sushi joint as I’m not sure, but it’s on 1st before Central… it was weird how it kicked in the next a.m. but it may be some other food I ate at home slowed absorbtion or something.
May 20th, 2008 at 12:25 amBTW Officer- were the 2 cops in the shooting at 45th an Main from Central, or is that a different hq? It sounds like they did an excellent job, and we have one less banger to worry about.
Now the Long Beach guys might have a little problem…
May 20th, 2008 at 12:37 amThe 45th and Main shooting involved officers from Newton Division, not Central. Yes, one less predator on the streets is a good thing.
As for the LB shooting, I don’t know. I wasn’t there. Knowing how LBPD operates and knowing how the DA works, I’d say that nothing is going to happen to the officers.
From what I read, the officers responded to a 911 call that a RESIDENT made. THEY felt he was a threat so they called their local PD.
The hoodlum CHARGED the officers and an all-out fight ensued. They Taser’d him and batoned him and nothing worked. They probably ran out of steam and had to resort to their last tool, the pistol.
You see folks, when a mental patient/druggie decides to duke it out with TWO cops for no reason, it makes you kinda wonder.
They said that the man wasn’t armed, but guess what, the police are. And when you roll on the ground with a man who feels no pain and you do, there’s a very good chance that your gun may be taken away and be used against you.
It’s happened in the past with deadly results.
We don’t get paid enough to get severly injured and/or die.
If it’s me against a huge Samoan who just took my baton and is going to whack me or my partner, causing them great bodily injury or death, you’re damned right I’m gonna take out my pistol and take him/her out.
The California Penal Code allows us to and our family members demand us to. They want us back home in one piece, not beaten to a bloody pulp.
May 20th, 2008 at 1:04 amGreat points- it just seems the LAPD is pretty clear-cut where LBPD has a messier situation. It will be interesting to see if any decent cell phone movies comeout.
May 20th, 2008 at 2:23 amHey, Eric, I just read your post about not feeling well. I’m sorry you’re ill.
I agree with the cop’s approvals and disapprovals for medical centers. I’ve also heard good things about downtown’s punk rock doc Madeline Deutsch, M.D. at http://www.thepunkrockdoc.com/. Her office is at 417 S. Hill St #201 in the Subway Terminal Building. She is only about 5 blocks away from you.
I’m always available to walk Isis at any time and I have a car if you ever need a ride. Call me anytime. You should have my number. If you can’t find it, just email me and I’ll send it to you again.
May 20th, 2008 at 3:00 amI hope you are getting some rest and feeling better soon!!
May 20th, 2008 at 4:13 amThanks Meeko! I’m still weak but I’m going to take Isis for a walk right now- I’m so happy it’s cooled down as the heat made it worse…
May 20th, 2008 at 2:31 pmI must admit that I have strong opinions on health care given that I come from Canada. I find it terrible that you have to research out a hospital to find a place where you will received good care - where profits will not superceed diligent and affordable service.
I do hope you are feeling better and I’d take Isis for a walk if you were ever in need as well.
May 20th, 2008 at 5:11 pmHey Brian, so you’re Canadian, eh? I don’t know much about health care here, as I’ve been fortunate to NEVER go to a hospital, at least on my terms
I had HMO coverage here for years, Kaiser, but the horror stories are heard about ER waiting rooms has always scared me away but I was definitely thinking of it Sunday night.
Thank you very much for offer to walk Isis- but you don’t know what you’d be getting into to. Isis did get a good walk this a.m., but now I’m worn out. I’ll be better soon I can tell now. I appreciate the concern.
May 20th, 2008 at 5:25 pmNo problem - I can’t imagine any dog walking worse than Carter … he is spooked by pretty much everything including plastic bags and the metal covers on the roads around here.
Glad you are feeling a little better.
May 20th, 2008 at 8:20 pmGlad to hear all is well.
The adage, “if it smells like fish-eat it!” doesn’t always apply in the real world! LOL
