Big Crane Returns To LAPD HQ
On Monday the “big crane” returned- oh no! I thought, as this monster can make a ton of noise. Then all day Tuesday and so far Wednesday it has been lifting some big rectangular structures of some sort up to the roof of LAPD HQ. I can’t figure out what they are, but there are a lot of the as semis keep driving up with a load of 6 - 8 of them, the crane moves them, then another semi comes with same stuff (from what I can tell). I guess I’ll have to walk by and ask a construction worker what they are.
When I think about how much skill that crane operator must have, and the trust of the “spotter” on the rooftop that guides him via radio, I am very impressed. One mishap could cause serious damage to the new facade, and a mishap with the cargo on the rooftop drop-off could be deadly. I’ll bet there are not a lot of people skilled enough to control that size of a crane.

looks like hvac equipment.
May 21st, 2008 at 10:01 pmyou sure got a great view to all the action! =)
May 21st, 2008 at 10:16 pmThanks Jim- I haven’t run into any construction workers on my walks to ask.
There are LOTS of them… makes sense why they are going on roof.
May 21st, 2008 at 10:16 pmYeah, but I have to go into the bathroom to use the phone
May 21st, 2008 at 10:42 pmYeah Jim is right, those are HVAC units. This past Sunday morning there was a crane outside our place and down the street hoisting a couple onto the SkyLofts.
That is a great view you have!
May 22nd, 2008 at 12:34 amFrankly, I liked the view when I moved in (did you see the “slide show” I did a few posts earlier showing construction progress)? City Hall Looked so great. Now I have people staring in my windows… but I still have the west facing view which is a great 3-D looking view that will not be blocked while I’m here…
May 22nd, 2008 at 12:51 amI saw the YouTube video… other than the concern about the dog jumping) it’s pretty cool.
I’m glad you are feeling better!
May 22nd, 2008 at 6:14 ammeeko- I keep my windows pretty much closed now, especially if I’m playing “kong” with Isis… but yes, jumping is a concern always.
