Special Sunday @ The Edison With Abney Park

On this long Memorial Day weekend, The Edison will be open with a special performance by Abney Park. I don’t know what you’d really call Abney Park, nor their style of music (”Pirate Techno”?), but check out their web site, and maybe the videos section to get an idea of what to expect. It looks and sounds kind of cool, and at the Edison, well, really most anything is cool, even if it’s nothing. I can’t find any info on cost, but most shows at Edison are $15 to $20.

UPDATE: Cover charge Sunday is $25- confirmed.

I was walking back to Main Street from Little Tokyo & the Arts District (went to the Arts Fest at ArtShare) and I overheard someone asking where the Edison was. I gather she found it.

I guess they have a pretty serious dress code though don’t they? Did you end up going, btw?

The dress code is definitely selectively enforced; guys will not get in w/ jeans, but girls may; guys need to have a shirt w/ collar, no tennis shoes, sandels, etc. But on Fri/Sat you see lots of black suits and party dresses there.

The event is Sunday, so I have not gone, but I plan to unless it’s extrodinarily expensive. I’m not drinking now (diet) so it takes a little fun out of the club for me (they have great cocktails). If you haven’t been in Edison, you really should check it out, as it is a very unusual club.

I don’t think they would let me in just yet, but will love to hear about it if you end up going again. =)

You don’t think they’d let you in??? Hmm,.. they sometimes even let me in. I used to like to go down and get a margarita and shrimp cocktail at happy hour and would always try to push the limit on acceptable wear, and about 50% of time I’d get laughed away.

You and hubby (congrats on 7 years) should just go early (5pm or so) Wed, Thur or Fri as it’s the office-worker crowd and more casual, just to check out the place.

I would probably go by myself.. do you think pants are ok? I don’t own any dresses nor plan to til I lose another 30lbs. I thought girls had to wear dresses or something and the guys dress pants or jackets?

    skidrowdude Says:

Oh yeah, pants are fine- ladies wear everything there, including jeans. It’s just that you will see some fancier dressers there as the night gets later.

Now Sunday night, I have no idea what crowd will show as it’s never open on Sunday. But if I go on Sunday, I will not wear a suit like I would if I were to go on a Sat. night.

I just checked there web site and it looks like they are loosening up some- it says “no torn or baggy jeans” but it also says basically that the better dressed will get in first when there’s a line (usually around 10 or so). Guys still have to have a collar- which sometimes kills my outfit (crew neck under suit would not get my in once).

    Don’t be afraid!

so hey! did you end up doing this??

    skidrowdude Says:

Nah- $25 was a little too much considering there was no way I was going to stay up until end of show- I was too excited to get up and workout Monday a.m. to let a club wreck my plans. No loss… IMHO The Edison is best when there is NO entertainment (and cover is free).

Meeko- drop me a line at isis_hb@yahoo.com if you think you’re going to Banquette- I’m always on e-mail and I can stroll down there just about anytime.
