Lime Cafe Is Taking A Siesta

I just had a great bacon swiss cheeseburger at Weeneez, and was lucky to get to speak with owner Julie Rico a little while my burger was cooking.

Lime Cafe, a tenant in her gallery (next door to Weeneez) will be closed for “about 3 weeks” while the menu is re-done and kitchen is re-configured. According to Julie, the new re-incarnation of Lime Cafe will have food delivered to the table from the kitchen, and she said she sampled some of the new items today and she liked them (I am perfectly happy if they continue to make carne asada tacos like they did before, but not with rice and beans IN taco). And maybe an upgrade to the round “tostita” grocery store chips and salsa would be nice- I’d love to be a buyer of such items around downtown/East LA as it seems there are so many choices for restaurants.

Also, I must apologize to Julie as I thought Weeneez was open on Sundays, but she set me straight and said it never was. I guess I just assumed it was as I ate at Lime Cafe on a Sunday, and the two are connected, but that’s what I get for assuming anything- call ahead!

Lime Cafe has a lot to like- the physical address, the comfortable and plenty seating, and the Julie Rico gallery on the walls. I can only hope Lime Cafe management wakes up and re-groups for a longer stay the next time they open.

oh and I am wishing LIME luck and stuff I too liked the carne asada tacos.. messy and good.. but I do think that delivery to the table might be a better way to go for them. =) GO JULIE! and thanks Eric for the update you! =)

Pamela, what did I tell you about cheese? Eric, do you need the same lecture? Well, at least you know what kind of cheese it is. All Pamela knows is that it’s gooey.

Cheese? I know it’s got a lot of bad fats, and I try to stay away from dairy in general, but I rationalized the cheeseburger as I’m “low carbing”- I only ate half the bun… at least it was not Velveta or somesuch.

hey.. cheese is alright.. I don’t keep it in the house and hey, it’s one of my only vices, I can’t be doing too bad! ;P

and yes, like with everything (including red meat) things done to excess are never good for you.

Brunch at Weeneez? Mimosas? That’s great news, as it’s my favorite way to have a nice relaxing weekend. Kudos to Julie for trying this- I hope us Historic Core folks can give her tons of support as I hate always ending up at Pete’s as I wonder around looking for food.
