“Entourage” Filming At Higgins/Edison
Nothing really special here- it’s just that Entourage is one of my favorite TV shows and I was hoping to get a look at what was going on, but no dice. All the action was in basement at The Edison- should be a good season to watch as they’ve flimed a lot of parts downtown.
I am normally cool about any film shoots- but this lunch time was kind of a pain as there were THREE off-duty/retired cops on Harleys on sidewalk, right in front of door of Higgins, and some guy on bicycle taking up the rest of sidewalk eating food with them. These guys were just getting in the way of pedestians- not securing much of anything. just by sitting on Harleys on the sidewalk. As I approached and was basically obstructed from passing on the sidewalk, one of the cops asked the food delivery guy to move over so White Dog and I could get through. I wish I could get a job where I just sit on a sidewalk on a classic Harley, lean back, fold my arms, and watch the world go by while I am sitting in people’s pathway… (photos from around 6pm as I forgot camera at noon):

E,
Have you gone to The Smell down the alley? It’s the punk rock club by your pad.
THAT’S where they should film Entourage….
July 7th, 2008 at 9:34 pmyes! i love entourage. at my building they are editing a new season of project runway, for a second i thought Tim Gunn was in the building.
July 7th, 2008 at 11:21 pmAh, The Smell. I went there once and never felt so old in my life…
Alexis- I’d definitely prefer Project Runway to be taped here (don’t watch it, but I would…). I guess I just missed some of the girls from the filming who went into Liliya’s downstairs to eat after taping- I just can’t win
July 8th, 2008 at 6:58 amSaw the trucks out last night as we headed into Pitfire for dinner. We love the show and was hoping to catch a glimpse of someone, but no dice, just like when they were filming over at PE.
As for Project Runway - nobody like Nina Garcia
July 8th, 2008 at 9:59 amHey Brian- you seem to eat at Pitfire a lot- I used to eat there more often, but their service usually pisses me off (went down Sunday for a couple of cookies and they gave me things that most resembled a hockey puck- didn’t realize it until I was back upstairs… Now I’m back at Liliya’s more frequently. What’s your and B’s fav at pitfire?
July 8th, 2008 at 10:44 amFYI- Entourage is filming at 2 more locations downtown on Thursday, July 10th:

July 8th, 2008 at 8:27 pm^I know you didn’t ask me but have you tried the fennel sausage folded pizza with the side salad?? That and what used to be the antipasto salad was my favorite.
July 9th, 2008 at 2:55 amHey Meeko- I used to like the folded pizza but several times I got a soggy mess instead of folded pizza. The garlic steak panini was good too, if ordered w/ extra meat.
All of their pastas taste a little funny to me- too much basil and lemon zest for me… I wish Rocket Pizza was in Higgins- do you eat there ever?
July 9th, 2008 at 7:02 amRocket Pizza? Yes I do. I don’t like them as much as Pitfire. Comparing the ‘make your own’ Pitfire comes out ahead for me. I do like Rocket Pizza’s calzone (big enough for 2) and the spinach salad. Rocket Pizza doesn’t have wifi though and on art walk night is not an option really. Way too crowded and the no wifi thing is kind of frustrating. If Pitfire wasn’t so far away I would probably eat there more often. Instead it’s a nice treat.
I haven’t had Lilia yet.. what do you suggest from them? =)
oh and don’t forget this Sunday is Julie’s first brunch! Also Lime is coming back on the 17th.. (that’s Disneyland’s birthday too so I’m not sure where I’ll be! oh the ocnflict!)
July 9th, 2008 at 8:38 amer, “conflict” I can’t spell this early.. I was up past 3am working on stuff… but the furkids still need attention at 7am sharp or else..
July 9th, 2008 at 8:40 amRocket just seems more “Italian” to me- they use lots of garlic- spaggeti and meatballs are awesome, but small portoin
At Liliya’s, my fav is brown-fried rice w/ beef, chicken (white meat) and/or shrimp. But an asian friend does not like place, it’s too “gringo” but it’s asian family-owned/operated. I guess if they don’t have chicken-feet it’s not authentic to her…
July 9th, 2008 at 11:08 amH is big on the pasta special they have right now. I don’t mind the pizza, just peperoni but you have to love the $5 special these days!
July 9th, 2008 at 9:33 pmSpecials at Pitfire? I didn’t know, as I usually call-in an order and then go down and pick it up at back counter. I need to start asking what specials are… I do like their pizza crust. I just wish they used more garlic and less of other spices in their pasta dishes.
July 9th, 2008 at 11:18 pmI haven’t tried their pasta. What are the $5 specials? I ended up there last night with SeanYoda when he got back via MTA and shared the meat pizza and a steak salad (omg the steak salad was good!).
I really need to stop eating so much meat but still, it was good! The fenel sausage is my fave and I use the pizza peppers on it.
re Rocket: I had the garlic ‘bread’ there and thought it weak on garlic. Honestly. I can’t complain too much though because I’m looking to go to the Gilroy Garlic Fest soon (I hope!) and I’m sure to get my fill of delicious garlic there, so when I get back and get all the bland stuff that LA (in general) offers I’ll be ok.
No offense but this girl likes spicy. And *fresh* garlic when I need it.
July 10th, 2008 at 9:08 amThe best Italian food I’ve had yet is at Camperi’s (sp?) in Little Tokyo. It’s on the south side of East 2nd Street, between San Pedro and Central.
Great prices, tasty food.
July 10th, 2008 at 9:51 amAh Capperi’s- I REALLY want to love that place (I still get the meatballs to go from time-to-time). But when I went w/ dates for dinner, they were always out of something we wanted, and the filet mignon was not the best (my bad for ordering that at Italian place). Also the Fettucini Alfredo (add Shrimp) is a favorite.
Capperi’s
July 10th, 2008 at 10:22 amThat is true. They are usually “out of_____”. That could be a good thing though. They aren’t stacking food and leaving it around. It’s more of a mom and pop type of joint and not a massed-produced eatery.
Their homebread is unreal.
July 10th, 2008 at 11:31 amVery good point, Officer. I never thought of it that “out of” is good- I think they do more lunch business and by nightime it’s hit-or-miss, and I should embrace that. I will be returning to Capperi’s soon as sitting outside and “people watching” is fantastic.
How’s the “Case of the Missing Single Malt” going? I missed out on Tesla Fries last night as by time I got back from dog walk it was $20 cover… hell, that’s at least 1 cocktail less for me- not gonna happen!
July 10th, 2008 at 11:45 amI don’t know the exact hours, but I want to say from 4-7 the pizzas are now $5 during the summer, and domestic bottles are 3 bucks or something like that. They are listed just to the left of the cash register.
July 11th, 2008 at 10:14 amPITFIRE SPECIAL: Mon-Thurs, 4pm-7pm, any pizza 1/2 off (and some special on wines by the glass that I forgot). No pasta special according to lady on the phone.
