Walk Downtown LA- Week 2 Approaches
The Los Angeles Athletic Club / Good Samaritan Hospital Walk Downtown LA event had it’s first meeting last Friday, and it was a huge success by all measures. I went to the club at the 5:00pm registration time, and was blown away by the turnout. And to my surprise, #1 downtown blog blogdowntown.com was a corporate sponsor! (Good job, Eric and Dave- money spent for a good cause!)
I don’t know exactly what I was expecting, but I figured a walk from 5:30pm to 7:30pm on a Friday evening would not attract very many people- most of my friends only have happy hour on their mind at this point, or getting ready to go out.
But the registration area was packed- at least 50 participants, not counting LAAC/Good Samaritan staff. and at about 5:15pm Steve Hathaway, President of LAAC, took the mic and explained how the 10 week event would work, and what the goal was (walk every street in downtown Los Angeles), Then the group hit the streets, for a walk up Olive to City Hall, where the group went up to the observation deck atop City Hall for a 360-degree view of the city.

On Friday, August 8th, Walk #2 commences, and the timing is the same (registration at 5:00pm, walk from 5:30pm - 7:30pm, beginning and ending at LAAC- 431 W 7th St). This week the route will focus on the Old Bank District. See the Walk Downtown LA website for more details, registration forms, and a map of the route.
