The Sounds Of Silence
I am really enjoying my 3:45am dog walks- its is such as amazing time in the city- I feel like it is all my own. There is hardly a sound, except for the gentle sound of the sprinklers on the lawns around City Hall, or the chirping of crickets that silence as I pass by. Once in a while, the quiet is disrupted by the racket of an insomnic homeless person pushing his shopping cart from trash can to trash can, but most homeless folks are camped out, in places you’d never see them at 8:00am- this morning there were 5 close together in the shrubs at the corner of Temple St. and San Pedro St., right in front of Parker Center (downtown LAPD HQ). Many more were lining sidewalk on 3rd St, but by daylight they’ll be gone. And I say homeless MEN because you hardly ever see a homeless woman at night- I guess they get into shelters or find “somewhere” to stay…
And joy of joys, there is absolutely nothing for White Dog to bark at- no skateboarders or other dogs at all. I’ve seen a couple of feral cats scamper across the street, but White Dog was oblivios to them.
Red lights? They are irrelevant, as there are no cars in sight, except for the occasional cab around the Grand Kyoto Hotel. Closer to 5am as I walk to Metro startion, I begin to see more cop cars, but not before 4am. I can walk as fast as I want, and keep my heart rate up while getting White Dog tired for her soon-to-come 6 hour crating until the walkfido.com arrives to take her for her 1 hr group walk.
It is an almost spiritual way to start the morning- I love it!
