It’s 2:00 AM And I Want To Work… But I’ll Blog
Damn, my sleep schedule is screwed… when I worked at home, day/night meant nothing. Sometimes I would work 18 hours straight with barely a bathroom break. But now I am forced to “turn on” and “turn off” my “thinking process” in accordance to when the client wants me to work- I don’t want to be thinking about a solution to a problem and not get paid for it, but inevitably it happens, and I feel used
I had the most amazing time at The Edison last night- I know I say that a lot but you really have to go to that club at the right time to understand what I mean. I like going there during happy hour, having a little chit-chat with the bartenders, and perhaps meeting a lady at the bar while she is getting a drink.
Last night was kind of special, as I found the one bar stool available, next to a very beautiful, but understated lady (I think she had on a sweatshirt) that I thought had huge attitude. No big deal- this is LA- so what else is new? Her bar food arrives- shrimp cocktail, Kobe sliders, and Tesla Fries (well, not sweet potato, but spicy fries, I can’t remember what they are called). And she’s drinking some bourbon on the rocks- holy crap- it’s my soul mate! Normally I don’t “chat up” people at the bar right away- but this food selection was EXACTLY what I would order- but one-after-the-other, not all-at-once.
It turns out this lady is the marketing chick for The Edison, and works in the 2nd floor office during the day for the club. She came down for happy hour because “she had a bad day”- I can’t believe I didn’t ask her about it but I was trying not to bother her.
I could go on-and-on about how it was cool conversing with this lady while she ate (and I was waiting for my shrimp cocktail which was round-one of my feed-fest). I tried so hard not to be the “jerk at the bar hitting on a cute girl”, as I could tell she was a special lady.
So Sunday at the Edison I hope to meet her again- she is part of the team responsible for this new Edison marketing push- the Sunday Speakeasy (she designed this artwork) Forgive me if I have this wrong, as I am sleepy but my mind is racing. Another blogger’s review of the first speakeasy last weekend- bottom line, bring lots of cash, and lots of patience- last night I was told multiple times to not expect to get drinks fast as they are such “hand crafted” pieces of art that it takes awhile to create them. The seafood sampler looks amazing too- but at $40/plate, this will leave a lot of people staring at my plate of lobster and crab. I don’t know how many folks want to get dressed up on a Sunday night for this kind of fare, but I will be there in a black suit, hoping I can continue my conversation with “The Edison Lady”.
Saturday night I think I’m staying in so I can get rested-up for a Sunday night at the new “Speakeasy”.
And then I met Michelle… wow, what a great Friday at The Edison- this lady is very special too, in her own, Chinese way. She works for DWP which is nearby, and we had a great conversation about everything downtown, dogs, ethnicities, etc. She does not drink, and it was her first time at The Edison, which must be a little strange for a non-drinker (when I do my non-drinking diet phases, I don’t go to bars- it’s vrey boring). At this point I had had 2 margaritas and a mojito, and I think I had that look in my eyes like “it’s time to sleep”, so I excused myself and went upstairs to my loft.
After 5 hours of sleep, here I am, in my favorite place, in front of a computer. Now I just need to shut off my alarm so it does not wake me at 3:30am and go back to sleep for a few hours.
Life is so great!
Hey Eric its Edgar, love your blog and I am tempted to visit the Edison just to see what its like but 14 dollar drinks and 40 dollar food are kind of a turn off…them again if he environment is as chill and good as you say it is then I’ll take a drink or two one of these days or we can hang out on my and your day off and you can show me what the Edison is really all about…it seems so mystical and fancy.

August 20th, 2008 at 9:39 pmHa ha Austin P.- “she” might have been… thank god I decided to leave when I did. Now the Edison marketing lady was 110% female- all the bartenders are in love with her. Didn’t get to look her up Sunday as event didn’t start to 9pm and I had too much fun with Edgar and the gang at Far Bar at happy hour Sunday to make my 3:30am wake-up call…
August 21st, 2008 at 4:24 amE,
How’s the Eddie on a Sunday, say around 8 pm?
What’s the dress code for that day/time?
What’s your email address again?
August 22nd, 2008 at 3:22 pmHey Officer- I didn’t go last Sunday as it does not OPEN until 9pm, no 40% off happy-hour prices- just a few specialty drinks available at $14 or so a piece and slow service. It is a very dressy crowd from looks of pics:
Pics from Edison Sunday Night
I really wanted to go see that girl I met as she is part of the team that puts it on but I need to be feeling good Monday at 3:30 am to start the week off right.
I’ll probably be hitting the Redwood for dinner after the gym tonite, and perhaps Far Bar Sat or Sun (that’s gonna be my new “home-away-from-home”… Edgar, Sky, Cliff- watch out, I’m coming back!
You can always reach me at isis_hb@yahoo.com -

Oh- you did see that it is only in PART of the Edison, and they close the door after 125 people are in… you better hope there are not a lot of “she-hes” in that 125, Officer Powers
August 22nd, 2008 at 3:34 pmEhhh, me thinks I’ll be skipping The Eddie on Sunday Funday.
Happy Hour on a Monday is more my style (and budget).
I spoke to one of the doormen the other day and he said that they got rid of the 35 cents Martini on Thursdays. He said they have some other sort of special.
The DWIs must have been going through the roof on Thursdays! Haha.
August 22nd, 2008 at 4:07 pmDude- no Edison on Mon or Tues- they’re closed… Wed is cool every other week ‘csuse no dress code. I can handle Happy Hours but none of the “party does’t start till 10pm” stuff on weeknights- I need my beauty sleep (bad). And I stay away from 35-cent Martinis- Gin makes me crazier than usual. Get an anonymous e-mail (cyber-rights.net) and hit me up sometime.
August 22nd, 2008 at 4:22 pmMondays and Tuesdays are the new Thursdays and Fridays. Don’t they know that? Haha.
Oh well, Weds will have to do.
By the way, I just read in Esquire that the Gin Rickey is the new drink of the summer.
I’m so bad I rinse my mouth out in the morning with gin.
August 22nd, 2008 at 4:49 pmHa ha- I’m sure you need the gin mouthwash to “clean up” after a shift on Skid Row… my poisen is “Te-kill-ya” lately… but I’m so tired after gym I don’t know if I could raise a pint tonite… I’m gonna have to rest up for tomorrow.
Keep on keeping us safe down here!
August 22nd, 2008 at 6:02 pmHi! I was surfing and found your blog post… nice! I love your blog.
