No “Heros” Worshipping By Higgins Tenants

Well, the big Heros show taping turned out to be a real fiasco- not only was the main parking lot for the building tenants shut down for 4 days, but the erected grand stand, scaffolding with lights, and the simulated red carpet, complete with 200+ people yelling and screaming, were enough to push some tenants to the limit. Frankly, it did not bother me too much, as I don’t park in that lot, nor do I have a south-facing unit. But I was a little concerned yesterday as the crew took over the little art gallery next to the Higgins entrance, and proceded to fill the sidewalk in front of building with security and producer-type folks. I was just waiting for them to stop me from going past on one of my White Dog walks…

Here’s a few e-mails to our building mailing list… see if you can feel the anger:

Alright. I can’t even be diplomatic about this. It is bullshit! I can’t sleep. My girlfriend can’t sleep. Its 2:07am. Had someone at least been honest and forthright and told me this shit would be going on I could have slept elsewhere and been rested for my meeting in the morning. I have windows closed, ear plugs in and it ain’t doing the trick. We have been down this road before. We have spent the past three years creating a system that worked for all parties. Did we just throw the rules out the window so Andrew and the Loomers could make money?? what the fuck is going on!!!!!!!! I lived with an amusement park outside my window for 2 days with a racket still keeping me up past 2am for 12K. This absurd, unacceptable and a utter disregard of my right to comfortable living. the loomers and Andrew should be allowed to do their event. Take no money. I would prefer to call the cops!!!

I agree one hundred percent. Got no work done the entire weekend.
Got literally no sleep the night before a hugely important meeting.
And I can normally sleep through anything. I sleep through The Smell
no problem. I slept through Metallica at Woodstock 95.

Did the Edison people mislead the board/management about what this
would entail? If so, I suggest they split whatever profits they made
last night among the affected units. And give me free sweet potatoes
for life. And be cursed to a hell where they eternally wait on line
behind their velvet rope with a group of girls from Victorville who
drove in to the big city for the weekend.

Or did the board/management actually know this would go on and approve
it? If so, they need to be more honest in their warnings (I would’ve
gotten the fuck out of town as well) and they owe us bigtime. I
suggest that the board/management never approve any event which
involves the parking lot again. And if they knew this would occur and
allowed it to go on I suggest that they find a way to make up for what
went on this weekend to the LifeActionCommunity . Like taking the $12K
and applying it to the affected units’ HOA dues.

(from HOA President):
The Board and Management were both misled on many aspects of this event, despite lengthy negotiations with both the Edison and the production company. We had worked provisions into our contract that should have protected residents against the majority of the disruption experienced last night and this morning. Many of those provisions were broken. The Association is being compensated for both the fees and additionally for the disruptions, per our agreement, but that is no consolation to the homeowners and residents who suffered through the event. A formal apology is coming from the board.

Unfortunately we can’t negotiate any further compensation for homeowners (personally I would like more than sweet potato fries), but we are looking very closely at our provisions for future events, if we allow them to happen at all.

Who are we kidding, we all know they will happend again and again…. Edison always gets what they want Tiss Tiss

EDIT: I was coming through the lobby tonite and the Property Manager Robert was standing in front of elevators passing out memos to disgruntled owners/leasees with information on making a complaint. I told him I did not have any real issues, and took the elevator. But I understand that many people were adversely affected, for days, which I don’t think was what was bargained for.

Whoa…that sucks. We didn’t bother trying to show up last night for the Heroes “festivities”…

The wife and I live on Broadway, so we know all about utter disregard to our right of comfortable living…and we know all about management not doing a thing to help mitigate it, despite their assurances that they would.

Fortunately for the affected Higgins residents, at least they know that it would eventually come to an end…I can only hope that we will be able to say the same thing.

Wow Dennis- it sounds like you have a bad situation on Broadway- I hope it gets resolved. The main problem here is that Andrew, who owns Edison and all the retail space in Higgins, is kind of arrogant about what affects building tenants, and makes these deals w/o telling the whole story (the Edison has a ton of filming done in it- Entourage, The Office, and Budwiser commercial recently). Supposedly the HOA gets compensated, but not enough according to the people that are really “in the line of fire”.

Good luck with your issues- downtown living is not w/o daily issues of one sort or another…

I’ve run into this sort of “negotiations” before. They know they are going to do things you would never agree to, so they work the fees so that the fee plus “compensation” for their bad behavior all fit within the budget. I’ve found the best approach is to make it clear upfront that any compensation for infractions of the agreement will be extremely punitive. For example, “Apon any violation of these conditions, you shall personally forfeit your immortal soul, which shall be placed in escrow immediately apon execution of this agreement, an obsidian knife being provided for it’s extraction…

(The knife found nothing, BTW. I had to settle for a shriveled black heart and a liver the size and texture of a baked potato.)
