White Dog Does
“Play-Date” And Downtown Dog Walk
An old freind of mine from the South Bay, DGlobeTrotter, adopted a pair of Maltese dogs on Saturday. She’s helped me raise my last Jack Russell, “Jackie”, and been around since Isis was a 4-week old palm-full.
I was very excited for her, as she loves dogs and I know they will add a new dimension to her life (although her Mother is already JEALOUS of the dogs in her life- such are Asian parents, well all parents, sometimes).
Her 2 little 6 lb. pooches are brother/sister, from different litters (Sammy is 8 yrs old and Sandy is 9 yrs old). “D” did a very good thing adopting older dogs- the original owners were an elderly couple, and the wife died, so the gentleman decided to put the dogs up for adoption as he felt they could lead a more quality life somewhere else- but he wanted them to stay in Manhattan Beach so he could see them and perhaps “doggy-sit” them).
So D brings them downtown yesterday to meet White Dog. I am very excited as I like every opp I have to socialize her w/ other dogs- particularly in my loft as there has never been another dog in here. D has all the accessories- a pink shoulder bag for them, and a tandem auto-leash that is very cool. The dogs are just charming- I love little dogs (and big ones) but these 2 are so well behaved, after 8+ years together, with same genetics.
She brings them up to loft and lets them off the leash- no drama / issues whatsoever. Only Sammy would bark a little if he felt he was not getting his fair share of attention. But no hostility between the dogs.
We head out for a nice walk before we a planned visit to a happy hour. We walked over to see the goats at Angels Flight- that is such an amazing sight. The dogs did not bark at the goats, which were all over the place, 3 feet from the fence, but busy “mowing” the grass and paying little attention to all the on-lookers. Isis was very interested, but did not bark, thank goodness. Sammy and Sandy were just excited by the new smells of downtown.
We knew the Downtown Dog Walk was at 6pm 2 blocks away at Pershing Square, but had been hesitant to attend as all of our dogs like to bark at other dogs, particularly when on a leash. But the pack was behaving, so we ventured over to Pershing Square at about 5:55pm. I’m so glad we did, as I got to meet some fellow bloggers who I really enjoy, and I saw some familiar faces / pooches that are cool downtown residents.
We finally met bloggers B, H, and Carter, D and Dakota (A and Sally were at the vet), and we caught up with Ken, Dodger, and Aggie, and Celia and Wonton. Other familiar faces/canines joined the walk- it was a good turnout. Ken passed out flyers for next months walk, which will celebrate the 1 year anniversary of the Downtown Dog Walk that Ken founded. He has invited several politicians (Jan Perry, oh boy…) and will be stumping for getting a real dog park somewhere downtown- a noble goal.
For the walk, we actually went right back to the goats on the hillside- it is such an amazing view, with so many pedestrians stopping to take pics and just watch the craziness of 100+ goats grazing on a downtown hillside.
After the walk, D and I dropped the “kids” off at the loft, and they seemed plenty tired and ready for naps, so we took off for a little fun at The Far Bar. What a great evening! It’s so fun having friends with dogs!
(Eureka Poz- if you’re reading this- you were in our thoughts- I think Isis would do fine w/ Ruby now, just like the cool Skid Row walk you took us on when I first moved downtown- I hope all is well!).

I’m always reading, Eric! Even if I don’t post a comment, know that I’m always around.
That walk did look like a lot of fun. Ruby has never seen a goat, and she would have loved that.
Ruby and Isis always were buddies. I think Isis is sowing the last of her wild oats. She’s becoming the social lady she was destined to be.
