Pussy And Pooch Throw Killer Fur-Licious Party!
Thursday night from 6pm to 9pm, dozens of dogs and their owners invaded J-Lounge’s 10,000 sq ft outdoor patio for a Fur-Licious party thrown by Pussy and Pooch- the upscale dog botique that has many social events for pets.
This was their second Fur-Licious event- I had missed the first one but really wanted to attend this one. As good as White Dog is getting around other dogs, she still needs to be walking/moving in order to behave. Anytime she is just standing around is a recipe for disaster- she does great on the Downtown Dog Walks now, but she must keep moving; when the dog walk route stops for a break at, say Pussy and Pooch for a visit to the Pawbar, I generally can only stay 10-15 minutes before I have to continue on my way as White Dog gets antzy and starts misbehaving. No way would she sit at a table at J-Lounge and let me enjoy an appetiser or a cocktail.
So I call my friend D who just adopted 2 mature Maltese siblings and ask if she would like to bring the Manhattan Beach Munchkins downtown for a party. She thinks it’s a great idea and packs up the little ones in their pink carrying bag and brings them to my loft. We take all 3 dogs for a walk first- Isis loves the little ones- no barking from her at all. After a good 2 mile walk to tire the pooches out, we put Isis in loft and head over to J-Lounge for the festivities.
The patio at J-Lounge is really nice- lots of cabanas with couches and comfortable chairs, a beautiful view of the downtown skyline, a nice full service bar, and a firepit for when it cools off after sunset. They have a decent happy hour menu, with food and drink discounts (we tried the pizza and the chicken skewers- both were fine, but the skewers were a little dry and, at $14 each, pricey). J-Lounge can break the bank account if you aren’t careful, as most of their “signature” drinks are $15, but these are 1/2 off during happy hour, which makes the price about right. We looked at the dinner menu too, but at $43 for a filet, I thought I’d rather spend that kind of money at a “known” steak house.
We met so many great dogs and their owners- including the winner of The Greatest American Dog TV/Reality show- Travis and Presley. Travis was a very cool guy- just like he was on the TV show, and he and Presley were great about posing for pics and answering questions about the show (I loved the TV show and had lots of questions about the various competitors and the judges, which Travis graciously answered with a smile).
After the party we came back to my loft and picked up White Dog and took the 3 pooches on another couple-mile walk. After the walk, the munchkins Sandy and Sammy fall asleep on my couch, while Isis is still jumping on D and trying to get her to play “fetch” with the kong- Isis has WAY too much energy sometimes… I love the Manhattan Beach Munchkins- they are so cute and White Dog and I look forward to their next visit!
There’s going to be another Fur-Licious party at J-Lounge on October 29th, this time with a Halloween costume theme. I really wish I could take White Dog, but she needs to calm down some- maybe in a couple of years…

hey!!!
that looked like so much fun! i’ve been to J.Lounge a bunch of times. My mother knows the owner, Dulce, very well. I’m looking forward to going Oct. 29 with captain. We’re gonna be super heroes. Either batman and robin or super woman and superman.
September 20th, 2008 at 12:21 pmHey Alexis- that would be very cool if you and Captain are at the Fur-Licious Halloween party. You know, of all the dogs at J-Lounge Thursday, I didn’t know ANYONE- not one blogger or downtown dog walker. I was surprised, but met some very nice people too.
I think Superwoman/Superman sounds great… I wish I could take Isis, but I’ll have to attend w/o her (I was a pimp and she was my “security” dog last year).
You should try the downtown dog walk sometime- great people and fun w/ all the dogs (2nd Wednesday of every month).
