A Strong Woman Is Good To Find
Yesterday (Saturday) was a pretty incredible day, with all the downtown activity and the freaky rain-showers that hit in the morning a couple of times and threatened throughout the day. My friend D came over with her Manhattan Beach (Maltese) Munchkins, and we made an afternoon/evening of taking in the sights and sounds of Detour Festival mixed in with 3 dog walks and a few cruises down Harlem Place alley, checking out the Secret Service as they checked us out.
The Detour festival reminds me of how old I am getting- I am just not a huge fan of “General Admission” anything anymore; if it’s worth going to, I’ll buy a ticket in the first 10 rows, or I will not go. I don’t know exactly when the trend started, but throwing water, beers, bottles, etc in the crowds, and sometimes started by the bands, has to be the dumbest trend at concerts since I can remember. But “slam dancing” ranks right up there in my book (even though it originated in my era, unless you are in a real “mosh pit”- there is no need to dance like an fuck-tard and bang into people that are trying to enjoy the show).
Being at these types of events with a “girly-girl” or a meek, subserviant type of lady is no good. Heck, being DOWNTOWN with a girl that cannot hold her own at least a little bit is not fun. (On that note- almost every girl (lady) I’ve met from the blogs or that lives downtown is a strong lady- they have to be to live downtown). D, in a past lifetime, worked for a company that, if she told you what she did, she’d have to kill you (I am only half joking about that). She does not take crap from anyone (now she generally persues her adversaries in the court-of-law, which she is very familar with).
Anyway, I like being with someone like her in high-crowd situations. We were stuck in the middle of the pulsating crowd for the Cut Copy set (BTW- my favorite band from Detour- just bitchin’ 80’s type dance music with a fresh flair) and some guy got overly aggressive pushing his way through the crowd. D gave him a big shove after he ran into her- I was smiling and watching intensely as his only comeback to the skinny asian girl was “Hey! You pushed me!”- damn right loser- you got OWNED!
It totally reminded me of the year before- she actually attended Detour with me then too, and during a Justice set some dude on X was dancing like an asswipe and when he went to bounce off D she pushed him back so hard he just about flew out of his shoes. I loved it!!! This is the kind of woman that I want to be with when times get tough…
It takes a certain type of woman to put up with and even enjoy the day-to-day stresses and aggravations of hanging out downtown, and I really appreciate these types of women. Thanks D for being a good friend and “having my back”.

i was at detour too- cute take on the event! “hey.. you pushed me” lol.

October 6th, 2008 at 12:26 pmEric, does D pass the dog poop test?
October 6th, 2008 at 12:33 pmJoe- ha ha! D does indeed pass the dog poog test NOW, but in the past at the beach, she’d take my old dog Jackie for walks w/o baggies for pick-up and I’d get so pissed (and embarrassed). But when all 3 dogs are together, she kind of expects me to be “chivalrous” and pick up the Munchkins crap…
I hope you’re having a nice Fall in Eureka- it was perfect here on Saturday with very light rain and cooler weather- almost a seasonal change
