Halloween Has Gone To The Dogs…

Downtown dwellers without dogs are going to feel a little left out this year, as two of the best parties are for DOGS! I am a big fan of Halloween- didn’t used to be, as in college I pretty much worked every Halloween as a doorman at a club (no costume allowed there), but one year I went to the West Hollywood Halloween Parade on Santa Monica Blvd and decided that it was fun to dress up, if it was not too stressful (or expensive) figuring out a costume.

This year is perfect- a party at Lofty Dogs indoor dog park on Wednesday will start the festivities (actually, I may start a little earlier as The Redwood Bqr is having Halloween Parties every night next week- woo hoo!) The Lofty Dog dog park is great for off-leash fun for your pooch- White Dog is so fun to play with when she is free to romp with the other dogs without the constraint of a leash. And the ladies of Lofty Dog, Cabrini and Karen, know how to throw great parties. There will be a DJ (Brian from the Angelenic.com blog), food by Colori Kitchen, and drinks by Verve. The event is a little pricy at $25, but a portion of the money goes to fund mammograms for women who
don’t have health insurance (PrivacyWear is the recipient because this organization funds mammograms and its mission and purpose is to find a cure for breast cancer).

Then Thursday night is the infamous Fur.Licious party thrown by Pussy and Pooches at the outdoor patio of JLounge- what a great venue! This promises to be off-the-hook; even LA Weekly did an article on the last one and talks about how much of a social event it really is.

Of course Friday I have to return to my roots, and hit The Edison for their Halloween Party- $40 in advance, and an open Absinthe bar from 8pm - 10pm, with Lucent Dossier to provide the entertainment (read- scantily dressed women!). Maybe a stop by Origami first will be in order- that place is rocking now, and has happy hour prices ALL NIGHT EVERY NIGHT! $4 well drinks, discounts on draft beers, and great food (try the sushi too- the organic salmon is to die for).

By Saturday night, I’m going to be dragging-ass and will really appreciate the extra hour of sleep as we move to Daylight Savings Time…

    LA Lola Says:

Aww, I really wanted to go to these doggie loween events. But the vet says my dog has to stay away from all pooches for the next 2 weeks. The dog I adopted a month ago from the pound is evidently 7 weeks preggers with about 7 puppies. Needless to say, the Yoda costume I bought for her when she was in her more svelte days no longer fits around her big FAT belly now.

And I thought I was just rescuing one dog from the pound, not eight. Yay for me.

Have fun, though, and let us know how the events were!

LA Lola- I’m not taking Isis to the JLounge event- she can only sit still for about 10 min. at a time… it’s always fun to see all the other dogs too though, and what a great venue!

I hope all is ok w/ your doggie…

Speaking of dogs, the new Urth Cafe is now allowing canines to hang w/their owners on the patio.

E, have you taken a walk down there yet? It’s over on Hewitt and 4th I believe.

Have you checked out that British Pub over on Mateo? Looks pretty interesting…..

God the save the Queen and her fascist regime.

Officer- funny you mention Urth as I was next to it last night at the Lofty Dog Howl-O-Ween party (GREAT PARTY!). That was the party catered by Colori Kitchen. Can’t really review the food other than say the two basic dishes they had were good, but not very warm. There were at least 30 dogs off the leash, romping around in costumes (White Dog was “Super Dog”- pics to follow.

That Hewett St. area is kind of nasty at night… no sidewalks??? Do you patrol there?

Never made it to Royal Claytons yet- I hear good things but I always get side-tracked. I tell you, you cannot beat Origami (3rd and Spring) for cheap but tasty bar food, $4 drinks and drafts, and great meals (pricey but high quality sushi and kobe steaks).

Tomorrow I’m PIMPING at The Edison- look for this dude in full length white fur coat, leapord print pants and 6″ platform shoes with the floppy hat…

    Central Divison Cop Says:

I don’t think anyone patrols down near that area E. I actually just drive around there when I need a break and to clear my head. I enjoy the raw, industrial edge to that side of town. A ride along the LA river bank is also good for that too. Ha ha.

I never noticed the lack of sidewalks on that street, but I’ll take a look for them now that you mention it.

Maybe the RC will be the place for the 1st CDC/E single malt meet. No dress code required either!

Have a safe one on 10/31!

Yeah, the Arts District is pretty industrial- and I too like the edginess- hell, that’s why I live downtown and ride the “Electric Sewer”. The RC might be a good place to throw a few back and get some English pub food… maybe they even have Sex Pistols on jukebox.
