White Dog Is A Pillow Eater (NOT A Pillow Biter!)
Damn Dog!!! If I told you my annual bedding expenses, you would die. And this is AFTER switching from Polo sheets to buying bamboo sheets at Target and discount Egyptian cotton at Smartbargains.com (I am now hitting up eBay as they have some great deals on high TC).
She loves to chew on the pillows when I’m sleeping- and I sleep w/ a fan on me so I wake up with feathers everywhere. I even bought two “memory foam” pillows thinking they would not get chewed on, but they are just as fun for White Dog. Sometimes I think it’s her frustration- not enough exercise? But when I walk her 4 times a day for a total of 10 miles, what more can I do? And then I thought it was blood from the various scratches and cuts I have on my arms (that get on my pillows because I sleep with an arm under them). But she tore into foam pillows 2nd or 3rd night I had them.
Notice the mis-matched sheets and various pillow cases; I’ve given up on trying to match stuff anymore- I just want to have no holes in pillow case or (down) pillows. Is that too much to ask?

I shouldn’t be laughing at this right?
October 27th, 2008 at 8:42 pmBrian Dude- you are upset that Carter wakes you up from sleeping by barking?
Try getting your arm scratched until it bleeds while you are sleeping (yes, it’s mostly the Advil PM nights that I don’t wake up until either my arm is a mess or the feathers are flying.
P.S.- I love the bamboo sheets you turned me on to- but target.com is f-ed up; I placed order for new sheets and an extra set of pillow cases ($55 for sheet set, $25 for 2 king pillow cases- something is wrong), and they gave me a one month shipping date AFTER I placed the order. Needless to say I cancelled order and sent them a message about how to conduct retail internet commerce But ebay rocks for sheets (assuming all deliver as promised).
My post is just to make you happy you have Carter…
October 27th, 2008 at 8:56 pmcaptain chews through socks. ALL OF THEM. we do not have one matching pair of socks in the house!!!
does white dog shed alot, captain sheds soo much!
October 27th, 2008 at 9:39 pmMy friend had a JRT that also chewed through house and home. She was told the dog was bored and had too much pent up energy, so instead of walks, she took him running or biking with her which really helped.
Cesar Milan also recommends putting those doggie back-packs on the high energy dogs to help expend more energy during walks. Maybe that will help?
October 28th, 2008 at 8:36 amHaha I’m sure Carter and I would have words if he was chewing everything and biting me. But you love your dog none the less …
You take your guy on longs walks, I wonder why he isn’t tired when it’s all said and done. You think day care might help?
October 28th, 2008 at 11:15 amLA Lola- I’ve seen those weighted backpacks- I think walkfido.com even sells them. I’ll have to look into it.
B- I don’t know if daycare would help as I leave at 4:15am so I don’t know about logistics; and I think it may be more “seperation anxiety” as Isis really hasn’t been w/o me around for her whole life except for when I go out to dinner. I get the longest walk - walkfido usually takes her for about an hour and a half, but I find it hard to believe she’s walking that whole time. It still might be that I get a little blood on pillow cases as that is all she chews… but I love her still!
October 28th, 2008 at 3:08 pmhey E,
When we first got Dakota, she was a chewer, a monstrous one…in fact, within the 1st year of having her, she ruined all four corners of a perfectly fine leather ottoman. I mean she tore up complete panels of leather along the sides of the ottoman…it was awesome and as you can imagine, ATL was totally ecstatic about that.
How old is Isis? We were told by some people that Dakota would stop chewing right around her 2nd birthday. Well, she turned 2 years old 2 weeks ago, and thankfully, she’s stopped being completely destructive with her chewing for a few months now.
October 28th, 2008 at 3:58 pmDumb question: when these dogs chew up all this stuff, are they ingesting it also? Or are they spitting it out? And if they are ingesting it, I can’t imagine that they’re systems fully digest these materials. So I can only imagine how interesting the dog walks are…”oh, THERE’S my red sock.”
My dog’s a little bit older, and I’ve never owned a puppy, so this is all foreign to me. But seeing as I will soon have a houseful of littles, I’m just curious….
October 28th, 2008 at 4:21 pmD- well, Isis was pretty good when I lived in a house; she’s 2 1/2 now, but very selective on chewing- she only wrecks pillows/pillow cases. I’m kind of leaning towards I get a little blood on pillow from scratches (or I get a nose bleed when Santa Anas hit). Are we going to see you at one of the dog parties?
LA Lola- I think she might be eating the sheets; she had a rope toy once that she devoured and that was fun walking her and pulling rope out of her butt… trainer told me no more of those as sometimes they have to do surgury to remove them… oh, to have a nice mellow dog- but I WANTED a high energy dog, it’s just my first JRT was not THIS wild…
October 28th, 2008 at 5:20 pmTry Overstock.com to replace Isis’ snacks, er, I mean sheets.
October 29th, 2008 at 1:37 pmThanks Li- I actually got the foam pillows at overstock.com and I use smartbargains.com too for my “dog treats”- aren’t you glad you don’t have a dog to worry about?

October 29th, 2008 at 2:51 pmspeaking of destroyed linens….
I came home yesterday to find my dog decided to birth her puppies on my $350 comforter/duvet set, instead of the $0.99 towels I specifically laid out for her. oy!
SmartBargains, was it?
