Halloween At The Edison- Oh, The Debauchery!

Just a few tidbits from last night- I swear it was one of the best nights of Halloween, which in turn are some of the best nights of my life. I went to college at CU (University of Colorado, Boulder) where on Halloween the thing to do was to take large amounts of “magic mushrooms” and go cruise the downtown Mall. Many good times there. And then there were my 3 ventures to West Hollywood Halloween Parade, which is pretty hard to describe to the un-initiated.

But The Edison was so over-the-top, I definitely cannot describe it and do justice to the visual overload that occured last night. Here’s a little of what I experienced (that I can remember, and is not buried in my subconcious, waiting to come out when I least expect it):

- If you ever have a chance, see the Lucent Dossier show- it’s there every Wednesday, 9pm with a $20 cover (but if you get there earlier, for happy hour, you can stay for free). It’s billed as a “burlesque show” or something, but it’s really a ton of performance artists, using the inside of the Edison to it’s fullest potential. Artists doing the strangest acts/dances in the various nooks and crannies of the bar, and more people hanging from wires than a “Crouched Tiger Hidden Dragon” sequel. I am speechless… I will be there every Wednesday night, sleep is not needed after that adreline rush.

- The costumes were completely outrageous- I should have figured since the Edison draws such an upscale crowd, but it was off-the-hook. One guy had neon all over his body, like something from “Tron” movie, but I’m sure he was imitating something from a new movie I have not scene. He had FIVE battery packs to power his skin-tight suit, helmet, gloves, and boots. It was simply awesome. There were people with costumes so large they could only stand in one place and play the part- a guy with a hot rod car coming out of his stomach, a guy with like 2 foot stilt-like heels (I thought my 6″ heels were tough).

- The open Absinthe bar that had huge lines, but who cares when you are standing in line with ’20s flappers, Wonder Woman, and bad sexy cheerleaders…

- My favorite, the “aging Rock Star” (read Madonna) who was smoking hot and put Madonna to shame with her buff arms, shoulders, and I must say, ass. She brought her 22 year old son to show him the Edison. He was so cool too- a surfer from Santa Monica, in grad school at Yale, who I could hang with anytime and have fun.

- As usual, the bartenders treated me like a king- I had at least 5 great cocktails given to me (yes, I barely could walk up the huge stairway in my platform heels at closing time, but I was not the only one who caught a buzz, but thankfully I had only about 30 steps more to the elevator for my loft). The funny thing was for the first hour or so they did not recognize me and I did not recognize them… costumes are FUN!

- I also met an OSCAR AWARD WINNER- she was pretty cute, maybe a little bigger than I expected, but down to earth. I actually thought I had a chance with her until her boyfriend showed up. I should have known better… but on Halloween, anything is possible.

I feel very lucky to have such a classy bar in the basement of my building. I will be hanging out there for their election party on Tuesday, as I expect a similar, stellar experience.
