The Edison Has “Soup Kitchen” On Fridays
This sounds like a good idea, especially in these terrible economic times. It became all the more real today as there was a large lay-off at my clients yesterday- all of Accounts Payable was let go (it was outsourced to corporate parent-company), including people who had worked for the company for close to 30 years. All the talk around me was whispers about “who’s next?” and “severance packages”- I feel terrible as the system I’m working on is perceived as being able to eliminate some workers, which I am not sure is the case. Anyway, I’m sure some of the “displaced” would appreciate a 35-cent gin cocktail and a free melted cheese sandwich with a hot bowl of tomato soup… Here’s the e-mail I just received from The Edison:
=====================================================================
Edison’s
Soup Kitchen Cocktail Hour
Financial markets in crisis; $700 Billion bailout of Wall Street; Global Financial Meltdown!
The Edison Lounge responds to the crisis with a meltdown of its own. FREE Grilled Cheese Melts and tomato soup as well as Depression Era cocktails at the Depression Era price of 35 cents. The Edison brings a much needed respite to those in need. In an effort to restore confidence in the community and its businesses, The Edison introduces The Soup Kitchen, Friday from 5-7 PM: to remind everyone to maintain perspective through this financial crisis and to support those truly in need.
25% of net proceeds from the night go to local food banks and charities. Additional donations are welcome and will be passed along to those who need our support the most.
The Soup Kitchen features complimentary Grilled Cheese Melts and Tomato Soup along with two distinctive drinks: “Your 401 K” (A Gin Cocktail) and “The Bail Out” (Bourbon).
Each 401 K will be served in a Tall Glass, filled to the half way mark and accompanied by a post card that poses a question that helps economists truly gauge consumer confidence:
Is your “401 K” half empty? Or half Full?
A truer test of consumer sentiment has not yet been established.
At the bottom of each card Customers are asked to contribute their quote on how they feel about the economy that week. Included is a disclaimer stating that any complaints about the customer’s 401 K or Bailout will be forwarded at no cost to their congressional representative.
The two best quotes will receive 2 VIP tickets each to our Wednesday Night Lucent Dossier Cabaret.
We will tally the results and post them on our website along with the winning quotes.
Runs every Friday until we all feel better!
Is this still valid?
January 30th, 2009 at 10:20 amYou know, I am not sure- The Edison has fallen out of my favor since they replaced most of the security that I knew- the new guys have WAY too much attitude and don’t understand that the residents of Higgins can make life tough for The Edison and they should be a little nicer- as a perk of living here I was promised a “VIP Card” to never have to stand in line but it turned out to be a “10% off” card… Maybe the noise in the alley below my unit is getting a little louder (j/k).
