Holiday Happenings In Full Swing

The Old Bank District’s 1st Annual Block Party was a great way to get into the holiday party mood. Main St. and 4th St. were closed for a block, a beer/wine garden was set up, and a stage for bands was placed at the intersection. There also were bands back in Harlem Place alley and by Lost Souls’ Cafe. The event ran from 6pm - 12pm, and by the time I arrived the event was happening- crowded but not too crowded that it was hard to move or anything. Tom Gilmore, owner of the loft building on both sides of Main St. at 4th, did a great job of hanging lights and decorations across the street, and the place looked very festive. Some are suggesting that maybe the lights could stay up year ’round, it looks that cool.

I took a toy to donate to the Midnight Mission and while looking for where to drop it off, I ran into Town Crier Don Garza and he snapped my pic. He invited me to a Christmas luncheon on Sunday at the Mission (which I could not attend). I wish I had though, as Anthoney Hopkins and Dick Van Dyke were there, and Don got a surprise certificate of appreciation for his work at the Mission- Congratuations Don! (click on the pic to see pics of Don with the celebrities).

Wednesday night is the Dog Walk Downtown- I’ve been lucky as everytime I’ve attended there have been at least a dozen or so dogs, but I get last month it was not attended very well. I hope to make it Wednesday as White Dog needs all the attention she can get. I also hope we walk somewhere instead of arriving at a destination where we just stand around- White Dog is too hyper for that.

Thursday is the montly Art Walk- sure to be the largest ever, with every month it’s rise in attendance and attractions, and the proximity to Christmas should bring more buyers searching for the perfect, artistic gift. I hope Dave Bullock has a spot for his Skid Row Photography Club’s photographs- I’d love to buy a few for myself (I don’t think my friends would get the same feeling from them as I do), and 50% of the money goes to the actual skid row resident/photographer, and the 50% goes to purchase supplies for the club- what a great win-win.

Then Saturday Lofty Dog is having their Christmas PAW-ty with Santa Paws on Saturday from 7pm - 10pm. Cabrini knows how to throw great parties, and the $10 admission should well be worth the food, drinks, and use of the indoor dog park where the furry friends can have some off-leash fun.

I’m sure there are many more parties this week, but this will keep my plate full as work is still beating me down- only until December 22nd though, as my contract ends and I will be able to relax a little and better enjoy the Christmas and New Years festivities.

Shewt gosh darn it, I wish I could make the paw-ty on saturday, but another holiday party all the way in san diego beckons.

Barring any unforseen puppy disasters, I do plan on making it to the dog walk (just me and Mamacita Nina, though, pups not vaccinated yet), hope you guys can make it too!

B- It sounds like you had “fun” puppy sitting- I jealous, as I like to try having 3 dogs for a little bit. My friend D is coming over for Lofty Dog party Saturday with her 2 dogs and maybe I’ll talk her into a “sleep over” so I can see how Isis does with 2 other dogs trying to sleep (3 dogs on the bed would be interesting…). I hope to see you tonite!

Missed you tonight, nice little group and we ended up out front of the library.

Carter played really well with the other dogs. They instigated non-stop and Carter would play or either walk away.

Might see you on Saturday night, thinking about Lofty Dog.

B- I really wanted to go see you all, but I had a chance for a dinner date, and you know the saying “ho’s before bros” ;-) I’m paying for it this morning though…

It would be cool to see Carter at the dog park- heck, the $10 party fee is same as it is to just use the park, so it’s good value!

Did anyone take pics at dog walk?
