Pulled Pork BBQ, Cheap Beer, Cool Atmosphere- HELL YEAH!!!
I am SO PUMPED!!! Ever since Pulley’s pulled into the lobby of the Downtown Independant Theater (right behind the Higgins Lofts), on Super Bowl Sunday, I have been a daily customer. There is some serious synergy here- it just needs to have the lunch time crowds that stream out the doors of Pitfire Pizza and Liliya’s China Bistro to notice this cool place right around the corner, and the theater lobby would be packed at lunch time. And Pulley’s founder, Captain Chuckie has been keeping his cart cooking for evening theater goers, and stragglers like me that stop by for a 6-pack of sandwiches and a beer or two ($3 drafts, $4 bottles beat the hell out of the Edison- and the atmosphere is kind of cool- pretty woman work at the theater, there is a lounge area upstairs, and even a couple of tables outside on sidewalk). I’m pretty sure I could get away with walking right into the atrium with White Dog while I place my order, but I’d rather sit and enjoy a beer and watch the world go by without the stress of Isis.
It’s a good mix for both the theater and Pulley’s, in my book. Now just the lunch time crowd from City Hall/CalTrans needs to figure it out….
I’ve been meaning to try this place…might have to stop by for lunch tomorrow and drag some co-workers to boot. Thanks for the FYI!
February 3rd, 2009 at 4:56 pmHey LA Lola- drag some of the Reagan Bldg folks down (up?) as they’ll dig the vibe while there’s no lines (yet). I’m not even a huge pork fan but the tangy BBQ sauce, the way the meat is cooked to utmost tenderness, and the King’s Hawaiin Buns make for a perfect mixture (with cold slaw to add some texture).
Can’t wait to see your pups- maybe next week at dog walk? Oh, and meet you in person, of course
