Sketchy Chinese Herbal Formula
A few months ago I had a stomach/intestine problem and I was throwing up hourly, for days- no joke. I’ve fully recovered, but my throat is just not the same, as it was burned by all the stomach acid. Now I have a constant “frog” in my throat- I think there is a prescrption drug that helps heal this for people with severe acid-refux issues, but I have not tried it yet.
My Chinese girlfriend, Yan, said she had a simular problem after eating a lot of very spicy food. She took some Chinese herbal pills and it fixed the problem. So she gave me a couple of bottles. Normally, I feel like I know pretty much about supplements and herbal remedies, but this came in a box that on causual obervation, I conclued I could not understand (call me dumb, but I have seen herbal remedies in boxes that were completely in Chinese, so I did not look too much when 3 sides of box were pure Chinese symbols).
I’ve been taking the pills for about a week- and I feel like my throat is better. Today i opened the second bottle and saw that the ingrediants were indeed in both English and Chinese- and I was a little shocked. Not only did I never hear of anything in the pills, but it was a little disconcerting to see “semen” and “cum” as ingrediants- I hope something got lost in the translation…

that “semen armeniacae ararum” isn’t as scary when you look it up on google. It’s apricot kernel.. so to be specific it’s Apricot seed extract which according to this site is good for a cough & cold:

It’s a rizome (or seed) so the latin looks spooky there I guess. Everything in Latin seems weird til you translate it. ;P
February 16th, 2009 at 6:12 pmThanks Pemela- usually Google is my friend but I was kind of afraid as some of Chinese foods/remedies are not something I want to know too much about.
I’ve never taken a supplement with so many names I don’t know, but hey, I sure don’t know everything about supplements. And it seems to be helping.
February 16th, 2009 at 6:14 pmI take Chinese supplements and a good source is Morningstar Health. Also, if you’re interested in getting low cost acupuncture treatments, check out Emperor’s College in Santa Monica or Samra University in Koreatown.
February 17th, 2009 at 9:21 amI’m not going to look up anything, and just keep thinking of you as a ’swallower’. Say, could you put something on YouTube of you swallowing … or I guess that would have to be on YouPorn.
February 17th, 2009 at 2:19 pmWas it salty?
Would you be interested in trying MY supplements?
You may never hear the end of this from me.

If you live downtown or plan on visiting, drop me a line if you have any questions and I’ll do my best to point you in the right direction. DOWNTOWN L.A> RULES (well, if it only had the ocean/beach where the 110 is).
November 2nd, 2009 at 6:19 pmI have thought about this myself and you could not have explained it better!
