Attending My 2nd Downtown Protest Tomorrow
Purely for professional reasons
I will be attending the CA NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) Protest of the Federal War on Medical Marijuana- scheduled for Noon at the Federal Courthouse (312 N. Spring St but protest is at Main St. entrance).
My current client, who owns 3 medical marijuana clinics, is going, and I am joining her to support her in her effort. In addition, my friend, who introduced me to the clinic owner as she is her personal trainer, has decided to open a medical marijuana dispensary- it may be open as soon as March 15th in the Whittier area- and she will come down too as she has the most to lose in her endeavor, with the federal raids that have been occurring recently.
This should be interesting if the rain doesn’t foul everything up. I’m not sure what to expect- a ’60s style “love-in” or a angry mob of stoners (probably not the latter- but I’ll bet the smell of cannabis will be in the air, with perhaps a few arrests). Report to follow…
Ahhh, the consumate professional, as always. Way to do your duty for the cause. Enjoy the contact-high! I think I’m going to put together a munchie cart and wheel it around there to create my own stimulus package!
February 23rd, 2009 at 10:03 amDAMN!! Why did I not think of that? Those Mexicans with the ice cream carts are going to be raking in the bucks! My client is running late and I’m ready to head out the door… pics to follow hopefully.
February 23rd, 2009 at 12:09 pmThe protest was so small today- maybe 50 people at high point. And they did not get to be in front of entrance to court house, but on the corner (may have been better as a lot of traffic honked horns in support). It was cool to see the 6 or so police officers assigned to it shaking hands with various folks- some “famous” people were there- Bruce Margolis (sp?) the lawyer who always has radio ads for defending 420 folks.
We spent about 15 minutes talking to this guy we saw doing a TV interview and overheard him talking about how his dispensary was busted. He was very modest and didn’t tell us too much other than he was on the WEEDS TV show and was also a jewish christian who had a church. It turns out the guy was Craig X Rubin, who had the 420 Temple that used Marijuana for religious purposes and was raided in 2006 (at 4:20pm by Feds and LAPD) and is currently running for Mayor (ha ha ha!). But he was a very cool guy and offered us lots of advice and said we could e-mail him and ask questions. Check out a couple of his links (his bust in 2006 and his Mayoral Race page- Google his name for tons of stuff):

Quite the character- explaining to us how CIA is in on many dispensaries now, lots of conspiracy theories, etc. But a good contact none-the-less.
Meeting Craig X was made the whole event worthwhile.
February 23rd, 2009 at 6:04 pmDon’t worry, Barrack “Obonga” has come to their rescue. He’s about to hem up the DEA so they can stop shutting down the weed spots.
It was cutting into all of the Rollin’ 60’s gang revenue. The less weed spots there are in the city, the less money they’ll have to finance their bling from all of the takeover robberies they commit in those spots.
Seminaries of Anarchy I tell ya.
February 27th, 2009 at 10:00 amGood to see you around, Officer! I hope all is well on your new “beat”.
I’m a little worried about my friend’s new operation- it’s in kind of rough part of Whittier, but she’s going to have 2 armed guards… No advertising or signage- just 100% referals from the clinic which is nearby.
I’m going to be the “inventory consultant”
February 27th, 2009 at 10:16 amE,
If I was her, I’d be worried too. The local homies don’t take too kindly too people selling dope in their hood without them kicking down a tribute, i.e. tax.
If she hasn’t done so already, standby for the usual takeover robbery, armed guards or not.
I’ve investigated a few of them and all of them have been low-key spots with armed guards.
If you were an armed guard making ten bucks an hour to protect a weed spot, would you take a bullet for them? I think not. Plus, many of these takedowns are inside jobs.
They don’t exactly hire/attract people with church-going backgrounds. Hahaha.
February 27th, 2009 at 12:09 pmI’m just glad I’m not the “Security Consultant”. At least she will most likely not have the DEA kicking down her doors and taking inventory…
