The Talented (And Economical) Fashionista

Last night Yan and I went out-on-the town and I when I first saw her I commented how much I liked her leggings (like many downtown dwellers, she likes to rock the leggings-and-boots look - as very popular in South Park area and well-documented by Brian at his site )

To my surprise she tells me she MADE them the day before! I remember her saying something about taking a walk down to 8th St. on San Pedro- I was pretty horrified that she took this walk by herself as it is straight through the heart of Skid Row. Midnight Mission and it’s drug dealers, all the guys talking trash to ladies, damn, why did she choose that walk? But Yan is tough and I didn’t really catch what her walk was about- lost in the translation. But it turns out she went down to Fashion District to buy some fabrics- her leggings took a generous yard of fabric at a whopping $4.99. Very cool! (I must mention that she said she does have a $500 sewing machine so I guess you need to make a fair amount of clothes to get a return-on-investment, but it’s a hobby for her). But she says that at least 50% of her clothes are her creations- I guess I just never thought to ask.

Every day I am more blown away by Yan (and the fact that she is still with me).
