Software And Pot- My Recent Involvement
EDIT- Yes, stupid long post- but check out video of shootout at bottom- it’s amazing what survellance cameras capture nowadays
Ok, I know most of your are saying- 420 (medical marijana) clinics are dumb, immoral, etc. But this is more about a businesss that is BOOMING in California- and I like to be on booming business ideas- but I just have to careful not to put my head up my ass too far like I did in dot.com era.
You really need to look at it on so many levels- I will not get into legalazation in this post (although I know I’d rather smoke a joint that take Ambien or Lexapro I was given by a doctor).
First thing was my introducton to a Clinic owner (who had 3 at the time)- these are not allowed to sell anything other than a docror’s time (and “recomendation”- basically a prescription). The lady had a problem where she lost client database and a lot of important business into. So I began duing all the “back-office” applications for her- creating patient db with scanned records and drivers licenses- daily patient sign in sheets, and the hardest part- a calendaring system for appointments. You may think this sounds easy- at first appointments were booked in 15 min blocks, with patient having to arrive early for paperwork, et. Then it was 10, 15, and 20 min intervals that client wanted depeding on procedure- if you think about it it is challenging- as she wants to overbook because of no shows (you know often you go to doctor or dentist and you end up waiting- uusally because people earlier arrived late). We are still fine-tuniing this as doctors want to put in there break times on calendar, but ot course client wants to book as many patients as possible- and handle WALK INs- very interesting dynamics to not have a 4 hour wait or no patients.
Now her friend has started a 420 Dispensary- the place where they sell weed if you have a doctor’s prescption. She is having me design the inventory/invoicing system which is kind of important with high-value, fairly hard to measure product.
It’s a little tricky too- honestly, on her first day of business her selection blew me away- she had 8 or so versions of just weed, “sample packs” of a gram each of 5 varietes and 3 edible products (cookies, brownies, cupcakes) that you need to account for how much weed was in each, how many sold vs. how many staff ate (her first real problem was that all of employees were stoned all the time- I mean laking a “coffee break” meant smoking a joint out back.
BTW- my client does not smoke weed- she’s an ex-girlfriend of mine and back in the day I had her try weed when I used but she did not ever get a buzz from it– I gave up trying as I did not want to waste the “good stuff” on her. She still does not smoke, but asked me to be her “Quality Control Consultant”- I politely declined as I do not smoke now- and frankly, comparing “Juicy Fruit” with” Banana Kush” is like comparing 2 high end vodkas- at a certain point you buy the cheapest.
On a final note- I kept warning her of security requirements- bullet proof “teller cage” with armed security only letting people in with valid ids, etc, She got really pissed at me and I honestly hope I’m wrong- But think about it- if you are a thug are your going to rob 7-Eleven, gas station, or weed cafeteria? Check this video from just a couple of weeks ago in Koreatown
Did you see that there may be a marijuana dispensary opening in Barry Shy’s SB Manhattan building? I agree with you on the robbery angle–you need to have really tight security. Liquor stores get hit a lot too.
May 29th, 2009 at 1:11 pmHi Li!- you knows what’s funny that I never thought about it many crimes are at liqour stores- and the weed chick’s family owns a liquor store but almost on the pier in Hermosa Beach. It never got robbed- there is no crime there at all hell, the only rime there was frat boys fighting.
I wanted to have her open place in Manhattan Beach but her “connection” is in Whittier. Anyway, South Bay is served by delivery service- I swear it’s just like ordering Dominos now- who whold have every guessed? Try submiting that business plan to venture capital finacers back in 2000 or so…
May 29th, 2009 at 1:24 pmYou knww Li, I just was thinking about your comment and Liquor Stores- I think now the most business I ever see there is lottery players- that thas has to be a terrble busnines to be in now. Just a random thought but I remeber the time when it was the best business to own now I think it may be the local 420 clinic / dispensay.
I got $2 million in VC money to do a application on an Apple Newton for service company- I better shoot for $5 million for the Iphone “I want my weed” app0- and trust me, I’m running to this going this minute.
I think may be more to this than I’m joking about- shh!!!
May 29th, 2009 at 1:47 pmI just finished watching Pineapple Express this morning and this post totally reminded me of this…
“This is like if that Blue Oyster shit met that Afghan Kush I had - and they had a baby. And then, meanwhile, that crazy Northern Light stuff I had and the Super Red Espresso Snowflake met and had a baby. And by some miracle, those two babies met and fucked - this would the shit that they birthed.”
I have some funny stories about Medical Marijuana and the cops.
June 2nd, 2009 at 12:55 pmThat’s funny- I need to see that movie. The Central Division Cop that used to post on here really did care, but did mention that they attract crime and therefore many cops will not make a priority to respond fast to a robbery.
I wish she opened it in the South Bay as if you even dress like a thug driving around there you get run out of town.
I haven’t heard any good stories yet- haven’t even been there
June 2nd, 2009 at 1:15 pmSRD,
I can just imagine when refer goes completely legal in Cali. Potheads will be everywhere! Imagine dealing with customer service folk in the future. Work performance will plummet for sure.
I’m all for having a good time, but does this really enhance our future as a nation?
June 7th, 2009 at 11:05 amCDC- I’m with you buddy- my friend that owns the dispensary was all pissed that the employees were always smoking on the job when she expressedly told them not to- I mean WTF does she think will happen when she hires a bunch of pot heads?
She wanted me to come over and help one time but I couldn’t dole out the weed unless I had a doctor’s recommendation- does that make any sense?
Well, at least she has not been shaken’ down (yet).
Hope all is well on the new beat officer!
June 7th, 2009 at 11:19 amAll is well my friend. I wish the best for your friend and hope that no harm comes to her or her employees.
My new beat may become my old beat in the near future. I’ll keep you advised.
