The Move Is On…
I picked up the keys to my new place today- and went in to loft one more time to get a mental image of how I was going to arrange things. I think everything I have left will fit pretty well- the place is about 2/3rds the size of my current place, but it has MUCH more storage. It has TWO walk-in closets (but they are very inefficiently designed with just one rod for clothes- I will need to build them out with organizers to make the most of them). And above the bathroom there is tons of space for storage- very good design.
White Dog was a little freaked out by the empty place- but I think she’ll be fine once the furnature gets in. I was going to leave her and take some pics at the roof top pool area, but then she started to whine so I’ll wait until tomorrow for those pics. It reallly is a great roof top with nice, clean patio furnature, a gazebo with soft couches, a small, 4′ deep pool and a jacuzzi. The amazing part is the view of the skyline and the world below. What a change from the Higgins roof top that has a shabby picnic table and a bunch of dog crap and cigarette butts. I think i went up there 3 times in 2 1/2 years and was depressed every time.
Gotta get to sleep early tonite so I can get up and tear apart computers and home theater in time for movers 9 am arrival. Walkfido.com is going to do doggy day-care for me so I don’t have to worry about White Dog with all the commotion. Wish me luck…

Good luck on the move!! Hope your new place turns out to be a place you’re really comfortable at!!
July 26th, 2009 at 11:41 amHey, I think you’re living across the street from me! Welcome to the neighborhood. There are so many great places to hang out just a couple of blocks away.

Word of caution about these units: the washer/dryer sucks big time. Not sure if your other Barry Shy place had the same type of machine, but these are SMALL. The drying cycle is something ridiculous, like 2 hours, and it rarely completely dried my stuff. Plus, you can’t remove your clothes right after the drying cycle ends (some sort of safety thing, I suppose) but while the machine cools down, so do your clothes…with the most stubborn wrinkles.
Other than that, I had no complaints about anything in my unit. Storage above the bathrooms was awesome (I put some boxes on those plant trays with wheels so I could easily access the stuff stored deep, just used a long stick to retrieve). good luck with your move and have fun settling in!
July 28th, 2009 at 7:53 amWow Lola- everything you said rings very true! I’m sitting here with basket of damp clothes after a “drying cycle” in the combined washer/dryer. My old place had a “ventless” Euroking stacking washer/dryer that I thought sucked, and this is WORSE.
Good tip on the storage-on-wheels, but I already have area stuffed full, and a ladder will be a permanent part of my design as I need it to access stuff.
I have so much to comment on- AT&T just got my internet in last night after losing my fixed-IP order and I am pissed at the world. But I do like the new neighborhood- interesting people and Isis is becoming a lady as I follow my trainer’s instructions.
Good luck to you on your move- please keep us up to date on your changes.
