IMAGINE A Train driving down Sprng St…
So the movie Imagine was filming today- and I seriously have never seen anything so crazy. On 8 a.m. morning dog walk I got diverted as they completely had Spring St. blocked from 6th to 7th, and the Broadway from Spring to Main St.
In a.m. there were probably a dozen cars in varous states of huge car wreck- none moving, just “placed” all crooked and crashed on 7th St.
Then , at 3:30 pm, I just went to Carls Jr on 7th and Broadway as I love getting 2 or 3 of the “Big Burgers”- great meal for under $5 but it’s hard to resist fries.
Anyway, they had a lot of cranes spraying water everywhere (yes, on sidewalk too) but they crew let me through as it was a break but I got a nice shower- funny seeing all the extras with umbrulas standing around- I heard 100 extras were there. I’ve seen rain/wetting street scenes before, but this was almost 2 blocks of it, and was always on- not just during shooting.
But here is crazy part- I was just in time to see a FRIEGHT TRAIN driving down Spring St.- only 2 cars but I was blown away. I asked the crew how they did that- turns out it was completely custom made of WOOD but damn it looked real. I’m not the kind of guy to hang around watching but I wonder what they are gong to do- they were just positioning or something so I did not see actual filming.
And I must say, every one of film foks were very polite and went out of the way to let me get where I was going. I feel bad for shops on 7th and Spring as there really wasn’t much foot traffic allowed.
Most impressive movie shoot I’ve ever seen…
It was crazy. I had to wait ten minutes to get to Syrup Deserts and I saw the shot. It was just the train driving very slowly down Spring past the wrecked cars. I think they’re going to speed it up in post-production so it looks like the train is barreling through the cars. Pretty wild.
September 20th, 2009 at 5:14 pmI saw some pics on Facebook of this train, that’s just awesome! A train on Spring St…dang, wish I still lived there! I will be on serious Leo-Alert on my lunch break tomorrow….
September 20th, 2009 at 9:03 pmHey Lola- thanks for letting know filming is tomorw too- as much as I think it’s great for downtown, I get a little upset when I have to complely backtrack on the blocks here (Isis has aleady smelled-mark everything by then).
If you ever see the old guy with a white JRT walking by your office building- say “hi” as we go that way at least once a day.
