The New “Hellacious Commute” Starts Monday
I am so crazy happy that my agent got me a new software programming contract at a major West LA firm and I start Monday. Doing my usual stuff- focus on Lotus Notes/Domino, major Oracle connection to ERP: and data warehouse, plus great opp for web front end UI work that I think is one of my better skills. The cool thing is this company seems very stable- based in Austrilia- 35% of businesss is in US and other in AU, NZ and UK.
The place is right down Wilshire by 405, so I’m taking the (720 I think) bus. Here’s the kicker- tie is required, and in my mind that means “suit”- no problem as I have a dozen suits that work to some degree, but my shirt collection needs a little rehab. But do you know any firms that still have IT guys wears shirt/ties- must be Australian thing. Frankly it’s easier than “Business Casual” as I’d rather buy nice suits than Dockers.
But the commute might make the nice clothiing not work too good. There will be different bus stories here I’m sure as I ride to and from West LA on a bus.
But I am so happy- this could be a LONG project!
the client Sean is work with has its IT guys wear shirts but not ties.. and NO business casual.. When he went to meet them the first time he did wear a shirt & tie get-up. I can’t imagine how comfortable it must be though especially with all the long hours he works. I would think working in a polo shirt or something would be more comfortable.
