First Day At New Contract Was Tough

Well, the good news is I really like the company so far, and the opportunity is pretty amazng. For you “geeks” like me- it’s going to be doing 2-way sync between IBM/Lotus Domino CRM, JD Edwards, and Oracle ERP, while building a data warehouse on Oracle. TONS of opportunity here- they have a plan to phase out Domino in about 2 years, but those things always slip….

I forgot to add that the kitchen has a fully stocked fridge of tons of sodas, AND gallons of milk and orange juice- very nice touch in these harsh economic times- kind of like the old software development days but not quite as crazy- when I worked for Nantucket the developers worked out of a house on the beach in Malibu to stay away from tha Marketing folks constantly asking “is the new version done yet”?

But first I had the 1 hour bus ride down Wilshire. I”m not sure but I think the people getting on and off that bus were more crazy than my Valley commute. So I was kind of zoned-out, not paying attetion, and seated near driver, and realize it looks like I may have passed my San Vincente stop. I ask bus driver and she says “Yeah- that was WAY back- get off the bus here and catch one going other way”- DAMN!!!

So I jump w/o really thinking and check address- it turns out San Vincente crosses Wilshire TWICE and I had passed first one. Now I have to wait for next bus to complete my journey, and arrived 1/2 hour late for 1st day.

Then when I am leaving I go down a different elevator and exit a different way but it looks the same (they have some mirror-image lobby thing). I”m walking about a mile and don’t see my bus stop- bad sign (my stop is a few bloaks away for 720 Rapid bus but I was thinking with excitement of 1st day it just seemed shorter or something).

Just then my best Ferragamo shoes blow out- the sole comes unglued and it is terrible and awkward to walk- and I have to walk back and walk other direction!

You could not believe how pissed I was, and then I could not find a shoe repair store as it was after 6pm. Downtown retail pretty much closes then- as I also found out that dry cleaners close at 6pm too, and most of my dress shirts were wrinked from move). I did a little shoe shopping as black shoes are kind of a neccesity, but did not buy as I know these shoes can be fixed. I think the glue just got dry or something as I only wore them a few times in past years.

But all-in-all, this is going to be a great chapter in my life.
