Dog Friendly? Kinda Sorta…

I was pretty happy when I was apartment shopping via Craigslist- almost every complex allowed dogs- a lot like downtown LA. But really I have not seen many dogs- people actually look at me funny when I’m walking White Dog- kinda like “what are you doing here?”

But the worst thing is NONE of the local markets allow dogs in- I know it’s a “health risk” but I knew a couple of markets on my block in LA where I could take my dog (Carlos was my fav)- and I only frequented those places, even without my “chick magnet”.

I found one little store that if the right person is working- he’ll let me come in- but the boss/owner kicked me out.

AND NO PET STORES!!! Downtown LA had them everywhere- even in my building. Poor Isis is suffering because I haven’t made the trip to Safeway or Rite-Aid yet. She has plenty of food but she’s used to a “Bonz” or “Jerky Strip” after walks, etc.

HEY That just reminded me- my dog walker works at Trader Joe’s part time and I have to ask her to get me some treats- hell, maybe I can get her to do my shoppng too LOL- I LOVE TJ’s!!!

How do the rents in your new area compare to downtown l.a.’s?

Regarding rents- it’s really hard to compare- I thought I was getting crazy value here but it AIN’T L.A.- downtown Sac has an upcoming area that is like a mini-Spring St. but then again there are virtually no homeless (visible) here- remember, I’m talking DOWNTOWN Sac. It’s not a “gritty” experience like downtown LA can be. But frankly I miss that adrenaline rush every dog walk or trip to Rite-Aid :-)

I’m paying $1225 for 1 bedroom in nicely appointed apt tower- better in many ways than my loft but no “character”. (I miss SB Lofts- much rather a small rooftop pool than a jr. olympic pool).

I think if you live in suburbs here you could style- and they have BIG light-rail system and MANY people take public trans that work downtown- so no parking hassle or traffic hassle. It would be like if I could live in Manhattan Beach, work downtown LA, and walk a couple of blocks on each end- that would be SWEET to me.
