My Weekend- A (Few) Relaxed Walks In A Strange Environment

EDIT: Yes I did hit gym for first time in 7 weeks (roughly)- Sat and Sun. Kinda lame gym unless you are a cardio freak- the best “free” apt gym I’ve seen.

THIS PLACE IS GONNA BE CRAZY IN SUMMER- JR. OLYMPIC plus SPA IS OUTSIDE THE DOOR- PLUS MENS AND WOMENS BATHROOMS WITH SHOWERS. I hear it’s like a resort where you have to reserve your chairs on weekends- I’ll have to workout early and get a towel down there early :-)

I took a good meandering walk with Isis today- and observed so many things- first off that where I live is DEAD on the weekends. This building I work in is essentially impenetrable on weekends- it takes VERY SPECIAL permission to get in the buildng. In my photos- you’ll see CALPERS (the pention company for most State workers). That area would be swarmed on M-F, but I honestly saw not one person, even on sidewalk.

Notice a couple other things- most every tree is desiduous- a couple of birch trees and a couple cherry trees have leaves / are blooming, but it’s still a lot of ugly, cold looking trees- no palm trees here. On the flip-side, there’s more grass and landscaping than I have seen in years. EVERY building has some interesting landscape based on some wacky plan to put tables (marble) outside for people to enjoy. Problem is it’s 40-degrees or 105-degress. Yesterday a guy at my apt. go into elevator and esclaimed “Well I guess Spring is finally here!”. If these pics look like Spring to you than you’ve been living in Sacramento too long. So here’s the strange, but damn cool too, Saturday walk: CLICK ON PICS NOT ONCE BUT TWICE TO SEE “REAL” IMAGE:

Half of the time White Dog and I walk we pass this “pocket park”. It has this way-cool “wall of water” fountain and Isis loves to jump up on the little wall- but it’s marble, wet and slippery so twice (so far) she fell in on other side (8″ deep). I finally bring my camera today and the water is off because it’s a week-end I’m sure. That sums up where I live.

A longer shot of “fountain” with water tower behind (still not sure name of this builsing- it’s pretty mysterious). The “park goes about 1/3 of block with chairs and trashcans- yes, those are imortant for dog poop

The “Forbidding Water Cooler Premises”

A view of water tower, and my GOV building on right (well, not quite- they are “twin towers” and my tower is further to the right, but you get the idea). My apt is 1 1/2 block straight ahead in the pic.

These condos are interesting- kinda like East Coast living- 6 along the block- tall and skinny- and no adjoining walls (there is about 1′ between each unit). The corner unit is “pimping” with it’s outside balcony. The next pic shows you the inner courtyard with units on other side of street. Just out of curiousity, I’d love to know more about these (cost, HOA, and look at one). None seem to be for sale.

This pic and next 2 are CALPERS HQ. Notice the “Jetson-esq” architecture the patio seeting so common here at GOV offices, and the “Control Tower” for intercepting any angry advoceries- J/K.

I have no idea what this building is- GOV obviously, but what you don’t see is it’s underground parking right in front of me and Isis (my damn camera-angles do not work). But you de see a Jetson-esq styling, flying brides in front door, and Birch trees surrounding the builiding. I’ll bet this may be a cool place to work… just guessing

Nothing special in this photo other than row of “condos” (I assume) with government building in background. Nothing different than Douglas Lofts and Ronald Reagan Building at 3rd and Spring in DTLA, other than Douglas Lofts is a bitchin’ old, remodeled loft building with great food downstairs…

Just a pic of my building “Capitol Towers” in the background, showing the “exciting” neighborhood around me (taken from 5th and O St- some directions have a little more activity :-))

This is a view of the Capitol looking down “Capitol Mall”- I kept hearing of Capitol Mall being 2 blocks from my place- well this is it- it’s not a mall, and has mostly apartments and bank buildiings lining the street. But I would have killed for this blocks-long grass median when I was a kid- perfect for football games. I rarely see anyone walking their dog here- but it is a nice place.

One of the many entrances to “Westfield Mall- Sacramento” - funny thing is most places call this the “downtown Plaza”- no Westfield mention. And like everywehere, Macy’s has 3 seperate stores there- one at each end plus one stand-alone. Remember when Macy’s had 2 complete stores in same blcok downtown? Someone needs to explain to Macy’s how damn stupid they are with real estate. There are more Macy’s about 3 miles away in another Westfield Mall. WTF?

I just snapped this pic to capture the “light rail” (train) going by- this is on Seventh St at L St. about 3 blocks from my apt- and the train that wakes me up every morning (I love it- it’s a little bell that rings- not the “air horns” like the Blue Line uses). It is crazy dangerous to me.. especially with headphones on as they sneak up on you and they cause certain traffic/walk lights to change. I’m sure I’ll be using it some as it goes everywhere.

actually, origami closed, so the douglas lofts is once again empty on the ground floor.
