Last week many downtown blogs revealed renderings of the 1 acre park that will be part of the north side of the LAPD HQ. The strange part is the city is still asking for RFPs for the park area- I guess this means that this park was not part of the currently way-overbudget $437 [...]

This has happened a number of times in my building- dumb a** punks scribble crap with knives on the inside of the (stainless steel) doors of our elevators. Ok, I’m used to graffeti- and some is actually cool, as long as it is not defacing private property.
But what gets me pissed is the thought [...]

I was going through some of my earlier blog posts, trying to fix images and videos that broke when I moved my blog-site to a new service provider, and I was blown away by some of the 1 year old pics and videos looking out of my window towards City Hall.
When I moved into the [...]

In keeping with the new downtown blogging trend of having guest authors on blogs, I am posting (with her permission) a great piece of prose that was sent to the Higgins Building mailing list by Debbie Kim. Debbie is a resident of the Higgins, and an “early adopter” of living downtown. From time-to-time she will send out [...]

Almost all of the glass has been installed on the facade of the new LAPD Headquarters. The glass, especially on the south side, is very interesting, with it’s mosaic of etched (?) glass and regular glass. From various angles, the building takes on very different looks.
In the morning light, the reflection of the Higgins building [...]

Yesterday began a string of 4 or 5 days of predicted upper-70’s weather here in downtown L.A. The weather was perfect for the Chinatown Parade signaling the start of Chinese New Year. I am looking forward to many nice dog walks (and walks to the gym) in the next few days…
EDIT: It hit a high [...]

The weather downtown has been different than I’m used to at the beach. Near the ocean, the temperature does not change as much as downtown. Here, we get 30-degree changes between night and daytime, which is a little uncomfortable and hard to dress for. Yesterday was 74 degrees in daytime, and 48 degrees at night. [...]

Either Monday or Tuesday they began installing the facade “panels” on the new Los Angeles Police Department Headquarters. I didn’t even notice until yesterday, even though it’s right in front of my face, I’m usually looking at the computer screen. I need to pay more attention because this construction process is pretty amazing. There are [...]

Today, 12/29/07, I decided to take pics of the new LAPD HQ building from the ground, as I walked around with White Dog. Nothing much has changed from the view in my loft (except the big crane moved to my side on Friday- damn! It looks like they have crane pointing at the ground so [...]

Yesterday they were putting the finishing decorations on the tree on the west side of city hall, and I think it looks pretty impresive (now they just need to get the “cherry picker” out of there that they used to reach up on the tree).
