If It’s Not LAPD HQ Construction, The City Has To Wreck The Peace…

I was rudely awakened at shortly after 6am today by weird sounds, and rumblings, coming from below. I stumbled out of bed still groggy after waking up at my normal 3:30am (I forgot to turn off the alarm) and finally getting back to sleep- I looked at LAPD HQ and could not see what [...]

New LAPD HQ Renderings Reveal 1 Acre “Park”

Last week many downtown blogs revealed renderings of the 1 acre park that will be part of the north side of the LAPD HQ. The strange part is the city is still asking for RFPs for the park area- I guess this means that this park was not part of the currently way-overbudget $437 [...]

When Will The Noise End?

Alright, I’m getting a little “grouchy” over this supposed 3-4 day nightly construction project to tie the new LAPD HQ sewer into the main system. Every “weekday night”, from 8pm - 5am, there has been activity in front of my place- this is going on 8 working days.
You know, I’m sorry to complain, [...]

On The 7th Night: Jackhammers!

Tonite is the 7th night that 2nd St. was closed at Main St. to allow the new LAPD HQ to get hooked-up to the main sewer line. According to memos from Higgins building managment, this project was to take 3-4 days of work between 8pm and 5am. Based on my totally uneducated opinion, [...]

2nd St. Construction Begins At Night

Just when I thought things were quieting down around here- they took the “monster crane” away yesterday, was I surprised. At 9pm last night I heard the sound of some heavy sawing as I was watching a movie. I looked out the window, and guess what?- 2nd St. was closed between Spring St. [...]

Big Crane Returns To LAPD HQ

On Monday the “big crane” returned- oh no! I thought, as this monster can make a ton of noise. Then all day Tuesday and so far Wednesday it has been lifting some big rectangular structures of some sort up to the roof of LAPD HQ. I can’t figure out what they are, [...]

Blast From The Past: LAPD HQ Construction

I was going through some of my earlier blog posts, trying to fix images and videos that broke when I moved my blog-site to a new service provider, and I was blown away by some of the 1 year old pics and videos looking out of my window towards City Hall.
When I moved into the [...]

Higgins Reflects Well On LAPD HQ

Almost all of the glass has been installed on the facade of the new LAPD Headquarters.  The glass, especially on the south side, is very interesting, with it’s mosaic of etched (?) glass and regular glass.  From various angles, the building takes on very different looks.
In the morning light, the reflection of the Higgins building [...]

LAPD HQ Progress (Week Of 1/27/08 - 2/2/08)

Lots of progress- these pics were not all taken the same day, but during the week of 1/27/08 - 2/2/08.  Sorry for the fuzzy look but they were taken through the window of my loft which is very dirty after the rains.

LAPD HQ Facade Work Started

Either Monday or Tuesday they began installing the facade “panels” on the new Los Angeles Police Department Headquarters.  I didn’t even notice until yesterday, even though it’s right in front of my face, I’m usually looking at the computer screen.  I need to pay more attention because this construction process is pretty amazing.  There are [...]
